I believe the tax issue is preventing Obama from winning this election in a landslide
I think Obama proposing to raise taxes is what is keeping this election close. Politically I think it was a mistake for him to say he would raise taxes, even though only high income people would be effected.

From the beginning, had he proposed to go after uncollected tax revenue, close tax loop-holes, and a balanced budget by the end of his 1st term, he would be leading by 8 - 10 points.

You can debate whether those are good ideas, I'm just speaking politically.

2. Politically, He Could Cut Everyone's Taxes in Half
His proposal has the advantage of being a realistic and fiscally responsible plan.

It does have to be sold better. That bar chart needs to get around.

3. What? That he says he will lower taxes for 95% or American taxpayers?
5% have that much power to persuade all those who would receive a tax cut to vote against their own best interest?

That is power.

No worries. Obama gave the nod to 527s.

6. They should blast the correct tax info
24 hours a day. I think the OP is right about how much taxes hurts us. We need to be talking about the national debt and war time tax cuts and giving our social security away with the Bush tax cuts.

5. Joe Biden finally brought up McCain's plan to tax
employer provided health care benefits. If the facts all come out, and McCain's lies are exposed, Obama will wind up with a 40 point advantage on the tax issue.

7. Regular everyday (there's a word for them) people don't seem to get though
I keep hearing or reading fears from (faux news?)people that Obama will raise their taxes.

I wonder if there is a way he can make his message stand out more, be clearer for people (there's a word for them) to understand or make it really repetitive, in laymen's terms and repeated over and over again.

14. I can kindof see part of the OP's point - whether it's bait or an honest pov
My mom goes to the doctor pretty regularly. She's 75 and usually sits next to other older people in the waiting room.

She's heard them talking quietly while watching the tv.

I'm pretty sure many of the older crowd are just afraid of too much change happening in their lives and are just very suspicious by nature.

17. The same top 2% Kerry proposed raising taxes on
But for reasons I'll never understand, the entire country thinks they're middle class and going to have their taxes raised. He promises a tax cut to most of the country, but the idjits prefer to believe Republican tripe.

10. Jeez..95% get a tax cut..
and you call that raising taxes? I'm just speaking politically, but it seems to me the only ones that would have a problem with this are Bush's base..the haves and the have mores. And of course those who are using taxes as an excuse to not vote for Obama. They should come up with something better.

12. Obama is not going to raise taxes the only thing he is going to do is return the taxes
on the rich to the levels they were during Bill Clinton's tenure as President and he is going to cut taxes for the other 95 percent of Americans. He was clear about that tonight and in his acceptance speech.

15. The lies would be there
whatever he said and proposed.

I do agree that this is an important issue, and I wish they would bang away on that some more.

An ad or two letting people know that Obama will lower their taxes. For extra impact, direct to a website calculator that will tell them how much he will lower their tax.

I have seen a few of those websites around, http://alchemytoday.com/obamataxcut/ for example

Obama could get a much prettier calculator on his web page. Enter one or 2 details, press a button, and see how much you save. Interactive, easy, and takes the point home.

16. That is the sillyest thing I have ever heard. When ever would a liberal
let the rich get away with paying no taxes, causing huge deficit and tanking the economy. That is what republicans do. And why they loose elections when they do it.

19. It's always been the tax issue with Democrats really. America as a collective has to pay the bills->

The current burden is on ordinary people Obama wants to make that more fair he shouldn't back peddle, as it is the honest christian thing to do. A rich man cannot enter the gates of heaven, their job is to creat heaven here in generosity. This is where someone like Oprah should be helping Obama more to hell with profits as it's the just right thing to do, heaven is a place on Earth and we can create that, it may take many lifetimes but it was here all along. Just takes tolerance generosity and kindness. Obama has opened the doors to external adverts so come on Oprah help save America rating will rise again once we're back on teh right path.
