Just laugh, and say that they sound unhinged and ridiculous.

Anything else makes you sound weak and apologetic. They're making the charge. Call them loonies and be done with it.

1. Lipstick on a pig is a comment that has been around for years.
Check out any highschool yearbook that allows comments. You'll see it dozens of times, along with 'never wrestle with a pig, you both get dirty and the pig enjoys it'.

17. Exactly very common term
I hear it a lot in the software field when someone has a piece of software that sucks. Sales guys will cut the losses and sell other modules and state - the xxx package has been redesigned but the changes are just lipstick on a pig.

18. Remember it from my childhood
It's been around that long. Simply put, a pig in a poke is just a pig in a poke, no matter how much you try to dress it up. ;9

2. BINGO!

Keep repeating it.... it is NOT a "gaffe", and if we apologize for it, we look weak and make it LOOK LIKE a gaffe.

Keep repeating it over and over... "McCain/Palin's change mantra is an attempt to put lipstick on a pig"

Don't be wimps.

6. What started it
Don'5t even bother with that. They sound like lunatics. Lipstick on a pig is a common American expression. What is with this PC bullshit. The McCain camp is unhinged because they're convention polls are deflating.

15. Well, that is arguably true
"Wanna know the difference between a hockey mom and a bull dog? Lipstick."

Bull dogs, ok. old expression of "lipstick on a pig" that isn't even a direct reference? The crybaby Express comes out in full force.

4. The truth needs no defending.
And if the martyrs want to whine about Obama calling St. Palin names, let 'em. He didn't, and they can simply go fuck themselves (god knows no one else will.)

8. Screw 'em. They get no apologies from me.
The "mainstream media" will make the story front page news, though.

9. Obama was clearly referring to McCain
the "lipstick on a pig" phrase is commonly used and not necessarily implies attack on a female.

10. Just say:
Is that what Republicans have their panties in a bunch about today? Yesterday it was the Muslim nonsense, the day before is was stolen flags. Tomorrow it will be a new stupid distraction.

11. But we SHOULD apologize for calling McCain a stinky old dead fish
"You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still going to stink after eight years."

"I see there's another hissy fit brewing over these comments by John McCain about Hillary Clinton.

McCain criticized Democratic contenders for offering what he called costly universal health care proposals that require too much government regulation. While he said he had not studied Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton's health-care plan, he said it was "eerily reminiscent" of the failed plan she offered as first lady in the early 1990s.

"I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig," he said of her proposal."
