Palin Does Not REALLY Oppose Roe V. Wade Is Another McCain Plant: to Court Women Voters
Today I noticed another story at DU, one which I warned people here would be coming down the pipeline as soon as the "rally the base GOP convention" was over. While Gov. Palin was chosen for her right of right wing anti-abortion not even in cases of rape or incest anti-choice views, anyone with an ounce of sense knew that the moment the general election began she and McCain would both seek to present themselves as people who would never, ever attempt to take away women's right to choose.

Now, neither of them can just stand up and say "We promise not to nominate wacko right wing judges to the Supreme Court who will take away your right to choose" because that would make them look like liars, hypocrites--like real cynical politicians trying to have it both ways. Plus, it might piss off the right wing base which has a real hard on for Gov. Palin and has finally gotten to the point where it can tolerate McCain.

So, the strategy for getting women (who are mostly pro-choice and who will vote for Obama if they think that McCain/Palin means an end to choice) to vote for the Republicans is to make women believe that the Republican team was lying to the GOP base, but in their heart of hearts they are really GOP mavericks who believe in a women's right to choose

Yeah, and I have a bridge to Nowhere to sell you. Cheap.

Since the McCain campaign can not issue a press statement saying "Sarah is really ok on choice" they have to get other people to do it for them.

Now, which other people can do it?

Not the right wing. If conservatives tell their voters "Alaska did not enact any draconian anti-abortion laws under Palin" then that pisses off the base.

No, they have to get "feminists"--like maybe PUMA and Geraldine Ferraro to reassure women that she is not really such a anti-choice candidate.

And since PUMA and Ferraro are suspect, they can go one step further and play Witness for the Prosecution That is where you get someone to pretend that they are testifying against you. They are your worst enemy. That way, whatever they end up saying must be the truth, right? And so, when that person or persons says "Sarah Palin is just pretending to be anti-choice, she really does not care about the issue, let's tell everyone in the right wing", the people who hear the message and believe the messenger are people in the progressive movement. No one in the right wing will give anyone writing at the DailyKos, Democratic Underground Underground or Huffington POst the time of day.

When Obama told us not to accuse McCain of political posturing but to tell America that he and Palin meant every word (that they would say) this is the political skull duggery that he was talking about. Because all along McCain has intended to shore up the base by claiming to be right wing ("Now I'm gonna go out and lie the way that W. did in 2000 and say I'm just like Gore, but you men and women gathered here today at the Republican Convention know it is a lie, because I have picked this wacky Pentacostal VP") out of one side of his mouth while letting the MSM tell America that he is firmly middle of the road from now until November.

This is exactly what W. did in 2000.

Just say no any time anyone at DU or Kos or anyplace else tries to convince you that the way to beat McCain and Palin is to attempt to peel them away from the far right wing by painting them as secretly moderate/mainstream/reasonable/in touch with middle America. The base will not hear or believe you but people from the left all the way to the center will---and they will start re-evaluating McCain.

1. Then someone should ask her straight out. Yes or no? No waffling.
If she ever does appear without a full cadre of handlers present...........

2. Watch her say "states rights". They are going to tattoo it somewhere on her.
