1. There is one problem with this nickname, though.
I mentioned it to a friend of mine (age 48) and she said "Who is Mussolini?"

4. It seems shocking, but...
...how many people do you think know that name now? They know "Hitler", although they don't know much about him, but I doubt that 10% of the population could say who Mussolini was. Check it today - ask your friends and colleagues. Most won't know, unless you work in a university history department.

5. That stopped me dead in my tracks for a second.
But of course, you're right. I don't remember where I saw it, but it was video footage of a (British?) crew asking people all over the world to name the first five U.S. presidents. One lady from China got all five, everybody in the foreign countries knew George Washington, and a lot of them got John Adams, too. Cut to the U.S.--only one or two people even got George Washington right. One lady said Abraham Lincoln!

I weep for my country.

6. As a nation, we are as dumb as a stump.
It's like a permanent, nationwide episode of "Jaywalking".

16. Really? Wow -- I am in my thirties (as are our friends) and we know who Mussolini was! Scary that
people have forgotten or neglected to pay attention in high school or college history/poli sci classes!

21. Holy Moose! I'm 48 too, I guess Catholic school wasn't THAT bad...
I think that's super-ignorant but at the same time it's still a great nickname since people SHOULD know about the 20th century fascist leaders...especially how they used religion to con the masses!

People who fail to remember history are doomed to repeat it...

A few years back I adopted a neglected dog whose past 'owner' called her 'Bonita,' a name I just could not abide because to me it sounded too much like 'Benito,' and no way no how was I going to have a fascist dog. So I renamed her 'Nipa' which was phonetically close enough that she knew when I was calling her.

She's a good dog. A little crazy and hostile to other dogs and random adult strangers, but I blame the past neglectful owner (and the lousy name she gave her) for that.

-app

edited 'cuz I wanted to.

10. Inclusion of Nazi white power lighting bolts into the design also interesting
In for a photo-shopped penny? In for a photo-shopped pound.

That was part of the GOP stage. Not photoshopped.

Maybe if you give the "moos" syllable an extra emphasis....aw, heck, who actually talks to another person anymore? :D
