OMG, she didn't fire the CHEF!!!!! COUNTDOWN!!!!
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 07:10 PM by itsrobert
Coming up. This is the first I heard she was lying about this.

In a few of the rallies she's been claiming she fired the Governor's person chef, because her kids should eat mac and cheese, etc.

convention, she told one of her cutesy anecdotes about how she fired the official governor's chef. And followed up with how disappointed the kids were, laughing, 'cause she's not the best cook. HaHaHa. Like an old joke out of The Lockhorns. It didn't smell right to me at the time. What mother with 5 kids who has the amazing opportunity to have a personal chef wouldn't give up almost everything else before the chef? I knew she was either lying, or just very, very stupid.

40. DailyKos story on "fired the chef" whopper
She didn't fire her, she "reassigned" her and gave her a new title. Since Sarah doesn't actually spend any time near the capital of Alaska, Juneau, I guess she didn't need the chef?

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/9/7/155428/5188/695/590184

The chef Sarah fired in fact still prepares elitist gourmet meals in Juneau for government employees, just not in the Governor’s Mansion. According to an item in this ADN article from 1/20/08:

"Stefani Marnon was first reassigned as a ‘constituent relations assistant’ in the governor's office and later to the state museum. Earwigs report she's finally landed where they really appreciate a good chef: the Legislative Lounge. Lawmakers were smacking their lips in anticipation, according to Sen. Kim Elton's newsletter."

Sarah Palin, far from being a down-home fiscal hawk standing up to a decadent government culture, first placed Marnon in a make-work job, then placed the chef where her presence would most appeal to political insiders, literally catering to the finicky taste buds of state politicians.

But that’s not all. The breezy item, headlined "Chowhounds", starts off by giving away the actual reason Marnon left the Governor’s Mansion:

"Remember the long-time executive chef who lost her job at the Mansion when Sarah decided to live mostly in Wasilla instead of Juneau?"

Marnon, in short, wasn’t fired to save money. She was fired because Governor Sarah Palin – whose executive credentials, displayed over an 18-month term, far out-strip Barack Obama’s accomplishments in some people's minds – spent most of her time as governor 567 bad-road miles away from the capital of Alaska.

42. Palin lives 500 miles from the Capital. She couldn't fire the chef just because she abdicated Juneau
So she gave her a new title, and she's still cookin' up a storm.

Palin lied about firing the Chef. She was never fired. It's just that Palin doesn't live in Juneau!

They act as if a Chef is a huge deal; it shouldn't be for a Governor that may have to host dinners at the Governor's mansion or some cocktail hour. Being a wife, mom and politician can't be easy and there's no shame having staff around to make sure that you're the best that you can be. The next thing she'll be saying is that she personally home schools her children.

68. More of the same...people, go for real issues, please, I beg of you!
I hate to be the party pooper, and I am sure I'll get lambasted for it, but in her speech, she never said "fired".

Palin at the RNC: "...I love to drive myself to work. And I thought we could muddle through without the governor's personal chef, although I got to admit that sometimes my kids sure miss her."

The Anchorage Daily News even did a piece on this back in 2007. From the article: "Bottom line is, the governor does not need a gourmet chef at the mansion," said Meghan Stapleton, the governor's spokeswoman. "From the start, she's been very uncomfortable with a gourmet chef. It's a luxury she doesn't think Alaskans should be paying for. Even if the family was there 24-7, the governor would not want a luxury item like a personal gourmet chef at the mansion," Stapleton said. "Now granted, during the height of the session, there are more receptions, more expectations for people to stop by, and then (a chef) is very helpful. But on a day-to-day basis, with the family, she just feels that's one luxury item she will not need. The Palin family will prepare its own meals", she said.

Once again, this was printed back in 2007, not yesterday.

If she used the word "fired" since then, it is still splitting hairs. NOW, can we stop grasping at straws and get on with the REAL issues and get Obama elected? I'm sure he doesn't need this kind of "help". We are looking like loonies hovering over her like vultures, looking for a scrap, and hoping to stretch it into a 5 course dinner to impress anyone who will listen. The problem is, no one is listening. This is not how you win elections.

69. It's the lies Jack
it's the nonstop flowing of the lies.

THEY NEVER STOP LYING EVER!!!

It's not a distraction from the issues because it is an issue. Are we to trust the country with people that will lie just on a whim so they can have a compelling story?

McCain and Palin are dishonest and build themselves up based on lies and truth twisting.
Is this the end all be all? Probably not, but she's QUICKLY building a dossier, QUICKLY.

70. True, but...
can we please stick to the actual LIES then, and not the twisting of words to fabricate lies to fit our agenda? We have to look past our biases and be more objective and get all the facts before we commit to the lies. Ever hear of the boy who cried wolf? People will stop listening.

73. Considering her kids never lived at the Capitol, and she collected a per diem for being at home..
WTF would the chef have any say in what her CHILDREN eat?

What a bunch of lying sacks of shit.
