This is one of the best lines he's used in a while. He needs to keep saying this over and over again. It's true, it's a soundbite, and it's adequately dumbed down.

There's a problem with it.

The usual rendition is: "You just can't make this stuff up", meaning it's beyond the ability of one's imagination or experience or historical record or anything. Totally novel and out of the blue.

This alternate form: "You can't just make this stuff up" implies that you have to have some kind of factual basis for saying it, hard data, for example, otherwise you are violating logical rules, which isn't permitted in this situation.

So, I want to have some more detail.
