The sky is falling, the sky is falling... NOT
Please everyone. As others have said... RELAX. Obama's got this, with Biden by his side. He has astonished us before and he will again. You can't take it minute by minute. You've got to ride it.

When you coach a kid who's in a game -- tennis, soccer, baseball, basketball -- do you tell them to let their emotions rule and react to every semi-smart or attention-getting thing the other team does? OF COURSE NOT!!! You tell them to play their own game, not to be distracted. You remind them that they've practiced and that they have a plan, that the game isn't over til it's over. Can we please begin to act like the kids who take their ups and downs and still win?

Stop posting about this weeks polls. Stop posting about Governor Palin. Start talking about all the work that's being done. Go ahead and bash McCain and the press but don't let it distract you from the endgame. WE ARE GOING TO WIN. Alert us to potential voter fraud issues. Tell us when you're having a tough time, or when someone makes your day by making the right decision. Take a time out, head to the side lines when you're feeling discouraged. Don't drag the rest of the team down with you. When you're ready, get back in there and fight the good fight.

Obama always takes the high road. Even when he's slamming someone,he does it with a respect for the fact that they, too, are a human being, with a radically, destructively different opinion. But he IS the unifier. That's one of the reasons we love him. He will unify enough people behind him to see this through to the end. Fortunately he is not being tossed and turned by the tides as we at DU are. Uh oh, I just changed my metaphor. I'm amazed I got as far as I did with the sports one!

So, I'll get off my soapbox now. I will not click on a single post that is alarmist. I'm in this for long haul. Let's all get our man's back and get going.

1. Yes, the sky is not falling and the fix is not IN. Enough of the hand wringing.
The game has only officially just started, so big deal IF we are really behind in the first quarter.

I wish we would stop obsessing about all and everything Palin here. I am sure that the Republicans love the distraction and misdirection she is providing. McCain is the opponent here and let's not forget that.

National polls mean little in a 50 state election.

4. I agree. These daily popularity polls are B.S.......
How about some facts:

McCain Is `Tied or Behind' in Swing States He Needs for Victory
<snip>
Many Republicans say they have the greater burden. Arizona Senator McCain, 72, is ``either tied or behind in every swing state,'' says John Weaver, a former top adviser. ``It's an uphill battle, cobbling together 270 electoral votes.''

Republicans face voter dissatisfaction over someone whose name won't be on the ballot -- George W. Bush, a president with approval ratings that are among the lowest in history.

Bush is ``the unspoken name in every aspect of the debate,'' says Andrew Kohut, director of the Washington-based Pew Research Center

6. Sorry, but what do you tell the kids you coach when the other team cheats and gets
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 10:05 AM by King Coal
away with it over and over. I hate to be the one to tell you this, but they cheated in 2000 and 2004. And they want it to look close so they can cheat again.

7. Good post - wierd that some folks are freaking out
It's a marathon and Obama/Biden have this thing paced out just fine --- they have mostly held the lead and a rethug convention bounce means little with 56 more days to run. Looking at the electoral college --- they are still in great shape.

Keep positive and thanks for sharing your optimism!

Welcome to DU! :hi: :)

8. Good post. "Hide Thread" and the scroll wheel are very effective weapons!
I'm with you, let the negativity fall to Page 6 in this fast-moving forum.
