I need to volunteer as much of my time as possible to the Obama campaign beginning ASAP. I plan to head down to the local Obama HQ first thing tomorrow morning, and when I do, I'd like to have a good idea or two in mind so that I don't have to hit the folks down there with the conundrum I'm about to toss out to you.
Here's the problem: Since 1968 I've given more formal and informal political speeches and speechlets, made more political phone calls and done more door-to-door political canvassing than I'd really care to remember. Just to give you some idea of what I'm talking about, I figure I've canvassed a minimum of 10,000 doors in four or five different states. After 40 years of doing lots and lots (and lots) of that and related stuff, I simply don't have any more of it left in the tank. No way. Just absolutely no way in hell. I've also got a bad knee, so my mobility is very limited.
Sooo ... any suggestions or ideas for alternative activities?
I would assume that envelope stuffing and other such menial activities are still available, and I'd probably be just fine doing that sort of thing. But having spent a lifetime developing some relatively high-level technical and professional skills, my volunteering to perform menial labor does not strike me as an especially efficient use of my time and experience.
Any ideas?
