Someone tell Obama and Biden to stop complimenting McCain/Palin so much?
Please? Biden did a wonderful job on Meet the Press today I thought. He knows his stuff, didn't shy away from details, has command of the details, in fact, and took Tom Brokaw on.

One problem: Is it necessary for Biden or Obama to compliment McCain/Palin so much....or at all? I'm so sick of McCain and Palin lying about Obama and his record, being snide and condescending, and our response is to compliment them? To quote Obama: "ENOUGH!"

Here's an example of what I'm talking about from MTP today:

MR. BROKAW: ...at the Republican National Convention. And when she used that line, being a mayor is like being a community organizer except you have actual responsibilities, you said, "Pretty good line."

SEN. BIDEN: Yeah, it was a great line.

MR. BROKAW: She had a number of good lines.

SEN. BIDEN: She had a number of good ones. Look, she's a smart, tough politician, and so I, I think she's going to be very formidable. But you know, eventually she's going to have to sit in front of you like I'm doing and have done. Eventually she's going to have to answer questions and not be sequestered. Eventually she's going to have to answer questions about her record.

WTF? I'm sick of this shit.

1. It's just a tactic....
it makes them look nice, as they are, and it makes the other side look like the aswipes that they are. Nothing more, and no need to change it at this point.

17. Raise the expectation bar high 4 palin
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 07:22 PM by underdoggie
I think it's a smart tactic to try raising the expectations on
Moose Palin before Biden debates her. When Gore debated w in
2000, the expectations on w going into the debates were so low,
all he had to do was not choke on a pretzel and the corporate
owned media would gleefully declare him the winner by a knockout..
So I says, Obama/Biden raise the bar every chance ya gets till
it's too high for the Wolf-Killer to be declared the winner
even for the biased rightwing media to overcount...

2. They are raising the bar so she will fall harder. Its a smart move.
Its also all they will give her. No more attention is paid and they go striaght to McCain.

Note as well the back-handed compliemnt of "smart politician". Its a keen way to step on their message. Its basically saying "Buisness as usual" and not the 'reformers' they are selling themselves as.

19. They know what the answer is: to go after McCain's
character and integrity.

But, that would be too 'divisive.'

5. Mind-boggling. It's like they want to lose.
Oh well. Joe can return to the Senate and Barack can go teach law somewhere.

6. That's classic Biden. He says something nice and then goes in for the kill.
Kinda makes it a little harder to get pissed at him - I think.

8. But he never really went in for the kill there.
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 06:51 PM by woolldog
Couldn't he have said something like:

"It was a nice line. She had a number of good lines. But that's all they are, lines. (and then expand on the fact that it's just old politics, or she didn't speak about jobs/healthcare etc...)"

Instead he just let it stand that yeah it's a good line.

This is the "kill" line. If she is so great, then why is she hiding from scrutiny? Why won't she answer questions?

EDIT: They are not trying to win DEMS. They are going for "thinking" independents.

13. Americans think: "Man, even the Democrats think McCain/Palin are great folks!"
How many times did the Repukes compliment Obama at their convention?

Oh, and that whore Brokaw can get bent. Why doesn't he just wear a freaking McCain button?

14. No, it's perfect. They're defining her as a "sharp politician" and "clever with
a punchline".

Worry if they were saying things like "wow, what a maverick" and "incredible executive experience."

The Obama campaign wants to stick with its more of the same, third bush term strategy so they have to make sure that what's her name is defined as just another slick politician.

22. He and Biden are constantly hitting them hard
the only issue, if one exists, that hitting them to some means Jerry Springer style hair pulling.

Everytime I see them, I'm like Joe is tearing them an asshole, or Obama is preaching the truth!!!

I don't see this softness or a refusal to take them on. I see them busting them in the chops with a smile and staying on message.
