This morning I called Westmoreland’s office:

Them: Good morning, Congressman Westmoreland’s office. Me: Good morning, I would like to make a public comment. Them: Yes, sir, what is your comment? Me: I would like to compliment Congressman Westmoreland on his comments yesterday about Barack Obama. We need more people like him to call a spade a spade. You crackers in Georgia must be very proud. Them: Sir, there’s no need to be insulting. Me: I’m sorry, but how did I insult you? Them: There is no need to call me a cracker. Me: I’ve never heard that term used in a derogatory sense. It is important to note that the dictionary definition of “cracker” is “a thin, crisp biscuit.” That’s what we meant by cracker when we used it in the city where I grew up. Them: Well, that’s not how you meant it. Me: Oh, so what you’re saying is that you don’t like being called names. Now you know how it feels. Them: Sir, I have to take another call.

Oh and those assholes commenting over there? Would call her an uppity, snotty high yellow (nasty terminology for women that are of mixed race) gal. ;-) I know this because I've spent just enough time in places like Albany GA and Atlanta to have heard it a time or two.

Edited to add - being dismissive and demeaning to that ilk and patting them on their heads and sending them on their way is more effective. Tends to disarm them . . .

I’m reading all of these comments from obvious liberals. Back and forth over Palin. Back and forth over NCLB. Back and forth over the terminology “Uppity”.

Stop wasting your breath. Your posting to a bunch of the worst of the worst Southerners. They lie to themselves and don’t believe for ONE moment that their parents or grandparents EVER referred to their maid or the janitor as an Uppity N*gger.

They are people of the lie. They want to pretend that Westmoreland was ‘okay’ because if they DON’T - then they automatically disrespect their heritage and ancestry.

They can’t help it. It’s just who they are. Doesn’t matter if it’s Albany Georgia or Atlanta Georgia. Both have this kind of thinking going on.

Again, these aren’t bad folks - they just don’t know any better. They are ignorant by virture of the social mores of the South and a lack of daily contact with educated blacks, hispanics, asians, etc. etc. unless again - it’s their janitor or a maid in a hotel.

They are what they are, be it good bad or different and can’t help themselves.
