An endorsement that still could be very helpful: Colin Powell
I know he is despised (rightfully so) by most here due to his role in the Lie of All Lies.

But it is an endorsement that could be extraordinarily helpful to Obama, especially with independents and non-fundie right-wingers.

Any word about this since the rumor Kristol tried to start a few weeks ago, which Powell denied?

Any other lingering endorsements out there?

1. Yes it would be, but I wouldn't expect it from someone who helped lie us into war
You are assuming he has remorse

I am not so sure

5. You're right, I don't know and I could be very wrong, but....
I do believe he has genuine remorse. He was played; however, he didn't step up once this was realized and do the honorable thing and reveal the lies and deceit.

He is, I believe, at the core an honorable person. Endorsing Obama would be a redemptive act in many ways.

If he endorses McCain -- especially since McCain has become Bush -- I will stand corrected about him being honorable.

2. Powell said he would endorse after Obama and McCain had both chosen running
mates. Both now have. So, either Powell lied again or we should be hearing from him soon. I cannot imagine that Palin is going to sway him more than Biden. So, if he endorses McCain, he is even fuller of it than we thought.

4. Powell resigned from his position after he found out that he was manipulated
He's very well respected by a lot of people and his endorsement would mean a lot

6. Could be what the Obama campaign is saving for the end run.
They have eluded to a homestretch sprint.

7. I still have respect for Powell.
Not a popular viewpoint on DU, I know. But I see him as an honorable man whose honor was manipulated and raked through the mud. Powell's anger towards the administration was enough for me.

So I would certainly appreciate his endorsement.

Feel free to flame away.

Powell does take some of the blame for Iraq but clearly most of it is on Bush and Cheney -- especially Cheney. He and Bush manipulated Tenet and Cheney. Bastards. Someday I hope the whole truth will be known -- if it is Cheney and Bush will be put in jail.

15. I agree with you as well... and have been flamed for that same stance.
It takes a lot to leave a position he had when he realized that he was amongst a bunch of idiots and bullshit. I respect Powell, even if I don't agree with him on many issues. And, regardless, an endorsement from him would be benificial.. almost all conservatives respect him and would look much more stronly at that then they do to Liberman going the other way.

13. I think picking Biden would be an indication to Powell that,
Obama is far,far more common-sense, then Captain McCrazy
picking Miss Teen Alaska 1984, to try to inject
some "Spice" into his campaign!!

17. Yep. I bet something like that is in the works.
I do believe the Obama campaign has an end run strategy focusing on peaking on election day.

18. Where's the good PR?
Powell knowingly lied to the UN, and Hagel owned a voting machine company. Do we really NEED their endorsements?

Bloomberg? The guy changes political parties the way most people change underwear, and New York is about as "blue" as blue can get, but I suppose he might possibly sway some of the "money" republicans vote? I'd guess he's for Obama anyway, since Gramps even admits he doesn't know shit about the economy.
