consider this: republicans are plotting palin 2012.
i think the republican powers that be already wrote mclame off. there's really not much other excuse for the way the media has been seemingly not toeing the right-wing line.

my theory is that they are quietly using palin for building a fund-raising network for 2012. sure, they're soliciting contributions for mclame's run, but the real point is to establish the palin brand for a 2012 run.

four years is a long time, and the negatives now will be largely forgotten if she's NOT vice-president for 4 years. moreover, they'll have time and money to quietly address the problems. get her training on how to lie properly. scrub the records. buy off or suicide anyone who isn't on board. set her up with a baseball team or something for pretend experience.

yeah, yeah, one thing at a time. but mark my words.

she'll be baaaaaaaack.

1. Word!
I absolutely agree. This election has more to do with 2012 than a lot of people realize. Troll the Repubs boards and you'll see that they don't really care about McCain; they care about Palin. She's the one they're grooming. If they win this time (god forbid), that's just icing on the cake. I think their eyes are on the prize for 2012. Trouble is, they have to make Palin look good now and people of little or no intelligence are buying it! Our local Sunday paper ran comparisons between Obama and McCain on every talking point and there's just so much wrong with the Republicans' visions and so much right about the Democrats'. We have work to do...Get busy!!!!

2. You may be right, but somehow that doesn't worry me.
I don't think she could survive a primary season like we just went through. Her extremist views will be broadcast for 18 months, revealing who she really is to the independents and undecideds of the country. She's more effective in this short 2 month campaign - hiding and picking and choosing interviews with the RW media, who will do their best to hide her real agenda.

3. that's exactly what i mean when i say she's got years to prepare
they'll spend the next couple of years manufacturing a far more salable image.

in private she'll be reassuring the extremists that her views have not changed, but they'll be establishing a more conventional track record for her, publicly taking less extreme positions, with very carefully chosen words and messages.

if someone even bothers to point out an apparent change in philosophy, she'll could say that representing the nation is different than representing alaska. or that nobody cares about those old speeches. anyway, they've got years to think of how to handle that question.
