Before you panic about the Gallup poll, it's a poll taken over three days.
Not even they are calling it conclusive. They are saying that mondays poll will be more reliable to guage the election than the one released today.

These results are based on Sept. 4-6 interviewing, and include two full days of polling after the conclusion of the Republican National Convention last Thursday night. McCain has outpolled Obama on both Friday and Saturday, and is receiving a convention bounce just as Obama did last week.

Tomorrow's report will be the first in which all interviews were conducted after the conclusion of the convention. Gallup measures convention bounces by comparing candidate support in the last poll done entirely before a party's presidential nominating convention begins with the first polling conducted entirely after its conclusion.

It more reflects Palin's speech as it BEGAN the day after. Palin is still an unknown despite the speech.

Also, doesn't look like McCain's speech did much if all he got in this poll was three points over Obama over a three day polling period.

Chill out.

1. Unfortunately DU will never chill out. All of this means we need to do our
best to talk to people and get them to vote for Obama/Biden.

2. Be prepared and do not panic ---McCain is predicted to get a
a more impressive bounce from his convention than did Obama.

3. That last day
must have been a whopper since McCain was behind by 2 or 3 yesterday in the same poll.

I'm not going to worry yet. The debates will be crucial. Obama will need to sharpen his debating skills to counter act the one liners that McCain will throw out.

Sometimes I am astonished at how shallow the American people are. This shouldn't even be close.

4. daily numbers don't look so bad
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 01:50 PM by kattenstoet
Running my daily numbers model, I get the following for the last few days:

Gallup:

9/6 O 47 M 49
9/5 O 45 M 48
9/4 O 43 M 47
9/3 O 52 M 39
9/2 O 47 M 45

So even though the 3 day average trend if going in the wrong direction, the faily numbers actually show a bit of an Obama recovery post Palin. Could all be noise, or could be something. But it does suggest a roughly even race.

Rasmussen:

9/6 O 47 M 49
9/5 O 49 M 47
9/4 O 47 M 47
9/3 O 50 M 43
9/2 O 46 M 47

So again, Obama had a really good day the day before Palin's speech, when things were looking grim for her. Since then, things look roughly even.

7. Tommorows numbers will probably be worse
They'll be all post convention polls. On the bright side, so far, Obama reached 50% and McCain hasn't yet. Obama's voters have been with him longer too.

8. I don't think so
This poll was taken over three days. After Palin's speech which everyone was glowing about.

McCain's put everyone to sleep and was bashed by the press and those that watched it.

10. Why does anybody believe these BS polls?
Seriously...it's like believing that the last 2 elections were completely accurate.

Again...its all about the Electoral College anyway...isn't it??

12. Too late. I've been in a continuous panic for several months now. I'm a mess, I know,
but there's so much to panic about and so little time!
