Proposal for a DU Worry Warts and Handwringing Group
I am asking the Administrators to set up a Worry Warts and Handwringers group for DUers who want to do nothing but panic, whine, devise conspiracy theories without evidence, worry about every poll that does not go our way and nitpick at Obama's campaign.

I think we'd all be better off if we could just ship those posters off to their own area, and they would stay out of the way of the rest of us.

1. I take it you don't know how to use ignore or hide thread?
Not to mention the whole free speech thing.

2. I have a different proposal.
I am similarly annoyed with the hand-wringing but it's a necessary outlet for some people.

But could someone w/posting authority PLEASE start a "What I am currently doing to help" post???

I think it's important that EACH of us contributes to that thread.

Thanks very much for your consideration.

3. I agree.. People need a place to vent....

.. and DU is all we got. I'm confident in the next news cycle Obama and Biden will be on their game. I'm starting to see a lot of anti-repuke momentum in the LSM (Lame Stream Media) that you never would have seen before.

6. I can deal with the Nervous Nellies, it's the Debbie Downers that piss me off.
There's a few here who seem determined to undermine morale. And when you call them on it, their excuse is that they're just being "realistic" and the rest of us are guilty of "groupthink".

Those are the ones I'd personally like to see sent into exile.

7. They're demoralizing and they need to get up outta
their chairs and to do something constructive to help Obama Biden win instead of bitchin'

10. They're not going to do anything constructive because they don't actually care.
On one thread earlier today, this one particular "critic" was asked directly THREE times whether he intended to vote for Obama and he flat out refused to answer. Just kept ranting on about being expected to "march in lockstep".

That's the kind of poster we can well do without.

9. the best and strongest DUers
Some of the best and strongest people here are warning that gutter politics and the obsession over Palin's personal life could backfire.

That is not "hand wringing" nor "worry warts" nor "nervous nellies." It is tough, hard practical advice. Ignore it if you must, but it is a legitimate point of view that needs and deserves to be heard.

How about we pressure our Democratic party politicians to get tough and fight back against the roght wingers as out representatives, rather than playing tough guys on the Internet and attacking each other? Just an idea...

11. Good idea! The other forum can be called "Blissful Ignorants"
After 2000 and 2004, we all should have a healthy dose of skepticism. I question the rationality of people who don't.

12. Perhaps GDP should be only for adherents of group think
and set up as a permission only forum.

That way, the polyannas could have a place where they wouldn't have to read anything that conflicts with their rosy views about how politics is played in the real world.

Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 09:49 PM by depakid
Anyone who says something you (and others) don't like must not support Obama- or be a hilbot -or some such thing.

That's what group think is all about.

17. No, I'm basing my assertion on the fact that you refused 3 times to answer the direct question:
"Are you going to vote for Obama."

If declaring support for the Dem candidate is "group think" in your mind, then why bother posting in a forum that's all about supporting the Dem candidate?

I guess that's not too surprising after 8 years of Bush.

20. No, YOU don't get it. This is war, we are the ground troops.
The only power we have is to phone bank and precinct walk and donate and urge our families and friends to join us in supporting Obama. We have NO power to change the way the generals in charge plan the campaign, our job is to do what we have the power to do to the best of our ability.

When you go to war, your ground troops better have high morale. It keeps cohesion in the ranks and inspires the troops to fight hard and not give up.

Constantly bitching about things that NONE of us have any power over is worse than useless, it's demoralizing. It drains energy and enthusiasm. It's like telling the ground troops that they may as well not bother even picking up their weapons, because they'll never be able to win.

Well, fuck that shit. It's going to take teamwork and motivated ground troops to win this election. If you find teamwork and morale-building so offensive to your sensibilities then just go away.

I want motivated, passionate and enthusiastic partisans on my side in this war, because we need to win.
