Not a Bristol bashing thread, but a hypocrisy that I can't shake.
Public policy debate in recent years has included a discussion of the interest that many gay and lesbian couples have in uniting under the commonly accepted institution of marriage. The intolerant right has responded with snarling hatred towards a gay couple who have built a life together, or perhaps a lesbian couple who have formed a household and maybe raised a family. The GOP right wing tells us that should these couples marry, the instituion of marriage will be weakend and destroyed.

But, should a couple of horny teenagers climb into the back seat of a car and turn their backs on their right wing parent's "abstinence only" education resulting in a pregnancy, then the majesty of marriage is a just ceremony designed to smooth over an embarassing situation. How can the right cheer the marriage of these teens while claiming the marriage of committed, mature gays and lesbians will destroy the sanctity of marriage? The hypocrisy might be fodder for comedy if it wasn't hurting so many people.

2. the conservatives aren't known for logic
I've never understood how my lesbian friends getting hitched was going to effect MY marriage. My hubby and I wouldn't even argue over the gift to give them. :)

Seriously, the "threat" to marriage is in the high divorce rate. Any couple that stays married strengthens the institution. I hope that soon my lesbian and gay friends are able to be married in any state of the Union.

3. Gays with the means and maturity who want to raise a child are thrashed by the Right
and, at the same time, they genuflect before Bristol and her thug boyfriend. These people are truly sad.
