Am I missing something?
Why is it that right wing evangelicals are pro-life, yet they are also pro capital punishment and pro war?

3. They like life in theory.....
Life in practice, not so much. That's why they love the unborn, but hate the poor and the screwed up.

6. Yes
It's a relatively new cultural force in the US, called Country Club Jesus, or at least that's my term. In order to get the Jesus freaks to fall in line with Rove, Jesus' platform has been 'adjusted' to fit the plethora of memes flying around. For instance, unlike loving everyone and making sure that the poor and sick were loved and cared for, Country Club Jesus thinks that HIV is a gay scourge and a punishment from his Dad, that all gay folks should hide somewhere and that gay marriage will unleash the gay warriors to seek out 'normal' US families and give them gay.

Despite the fact that Real Jesus' closest friends were bums, former prostitutes, gamblers, cheats, lowlifes and tax collectors, Country Club Jesus despises anyone who can't play golf and make fun of minorities. Country Club Jesus also can't believe we'd ever have a non-whitey President, so that just shouldn't happen.

Basically, in direct response to your query, with Country Club Jesus, it's all about the timing in terms of death. As soon as sex is over, Country Club Jesus is there to protect whatever results in terms of microscopic cells. However, once you're on your own, Country Club Jesus believes you're on your own. Anyone who doesn't summarily adopt the beliefs of Country Club Jesus needs to die, and Crusades must happen to make sure they're exterminated. Sort of like radical Muslims, really.

So that's what's been happening. Thank you whacko neo-cons, evil people like Rove and the rest...

11. Absolutely. It's not pro-life; it's anti-woman.
They want to control women and keep us barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen. That's why the extreme ones don't even like birth-control.

9. They are pro-life but with some restrictions ....
They value life from conception to birth. From that point on, you're on your own. Don't want to "support a life-style," you know. And capital punishment? Those criminals deserve to die! That's GOD'S JUSTICE!!! And as for war ... those towel heads aren't Christian, so who cares?

(Can you tell I live near lots o' fundies?) :eyes:

13. They are not pro-life.
They are pro-control and that's what the abortion issue is all about. The picked the term pro-life to draw in the gullible. As for the other items, they are blood-thirsty and primitive. Actually, they are the worst of what humankind has to give; very unevolved.

14. RW evangelicals are anti-liberal.
Being Anti-choice allows them to attack at us liberals. War makes them feel safer, and some dominionists wish to have armegeddon, so war actual takes them to their dream of their Jesus coming back sooner, and capital punishment just plain makes them feel good, a huge hypocrisy, but brutally true. There is no way that their Jesus supports imperial wars and the Death Penalty. There cannot be. We are not to judge: G-d is. Not man: G-d.

Banging against Choice gives them a boogie man to go on about. It is like the witch, or the hippy, or the commie. Just one more boogie man that is used to motivate people into obedience.

I am personally against abortion, but I cannot deny that a woman has a right to chose to continue a pregnancy or not. This is her constitutional right. I am against all imperial wars, and against the death penalty. I kill insects in my home, but outside of it, I pretty much let life be unaffected by myself.

A RW evangelical would say I serve Satan. If that is the case, then when I die, if their G-d is G-d, I will be in Hell, and not have to deal with these hateful F#ckers, so I guess that is OK.

15. That is the absurdity of it all....to make any sense out of this contradiction
....they encourage lots of babies to provide an endless pool of soldiers for endless war and criminals to maintain fear among the masses and enforcement of their power.

Sinners are to be handled with judgment and swift punishment. Especially if they don't subscribe to evangelical views.
