Smack. Obama finally says it: THEY MUST THINK YOUR STUPID
Edited on Sat Sep-06-08 08:11 PM by debbierlus

VERY good, Senator!

This is a winner. People hate to be played as chumps. And, Obama is finally stating the obvious. The GOP thinks you are STUPID.
Too stupid to see through them.

And, this tactic is truthful. They DO think the American people are very stupid. And, it is EFFECTIVE. It is one of the very few tactics I have found works.

:)

13. No, MrsT was right 1st time. OP title should be "You're".
You're is a contraction of 'You Are', but that happens to also be the conjugation of the verb 'to be' (as opposed to the possessive case of 'your local grammar police'.

Love,

your local grammar police.

you're stupid. They are counting on it.

They are counting on the gullibility and stupidity of the American electorate to focus on the shiny new Gidget Gimmick and ignore the fact that they've got nothing.

In reality it's just a fancy piece of cloth and the bull will die.

8. This pains me ...

I know others have pointed it out, but I'm going to pile on and join the chorus.

It's "you're."

What is especially troublesome about this is that the rightful assault on someone's intelligence is presented with a sentence that has a misspelled word. No points.

24. Yes, they do ...

I do it all the time. When I do it, I own up to it or edit it if possible.

I'm not questioning the intelligence of the OP. I didn't respond until nearly 20 minutes after the OP was sent, after others had already pointed out the problem.

Look at this thread. A very good point has been demolished because the OP made a typo that was not corrected. Okay, fine, maybe the typo wasn't discovered until it was too late. However, the OP then chose to defend the mistake by belittling someone who pointed it out rather than own up to it.

Here's the thing. There's a cottage industry surrounding the "moran" guy. Do you know what his message was? I don't either. Don't care. Know why I don't care? The reason I don't care is because in the process of referring to people as morons, he misspelled the word "moron" as "moran," which makes him the moron.

This crap makes us look bad. Check yourself before you go off calling other people stupid. If you call them stupyd, you're not going to get the kind of attention you want.

The problem could have been solved easily if the OP had simply edited the post after several people pointed to the problem. But that didn't happen. What did happen was the OP chose to take offense at constructive criticism.

So be it.

In any case, I give up. You're right. I'm wrong. We shouldn't bother with spelling or proper grammar. That just makes us seem elitist. Standards are stupid. It's all a social construction. Obviously if someone is wearing a "do-rag" or seems to be on meth because he or she is wearing sunglasses, that person is an idiot.

Fine. You win. Your lingering issue with your English teacher is resolved. Happy?

53. And you are part of the problem in this country...
You -- like it or not -- are part of the anti-intellectualism crowd. You may not think that a simple spelling mistake doesn't warrant correction; however, little things like this can add up to a whole generation of youth NOT knowing their own native tongue. A generation of youth who could very well end up birthing an even dumber generation of youth until we find our self in a state of -- if I may borrow the term -- idiocracy. Your response encourages them to not even give a damn -- much like that crowd of dullards who insist that science has NOT proven that global warming exists simply because 10% of the world's scientific "minds" are hold-outs. Grammar, spelling, and syntax do matter and your dismissal of that fact puts you right on par with the idiots who disparage intellectualism. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, buddy.

43. I am perfectly focused on the issues ...
Edited on Sat Sep-06-08 11:08 PM by RoyGBiv
And the issue in this case is that Republicans think we're stupid. Why do they think we're stupid? Well, one reason might be is that we don't bother with such niceties as correct spelling or proper grammar.

The bigger problem is those who defend improper spelling and grammar, suggesting that those who do notice such things are out of touch or themselves somehow "wrong."

I will not apologize for daring to point out a mistake, nor will I bow to the bullying of those who seem to think those who care about such things are wrong.

If'n youse wanna thinks bein all laizy and stuff about grammar aughta be just all fine and dandy, well okeydoke.

I have an issue that's very important to me, to wit that intelligent adults are in charge of this country, not ignorant frat boys who think standards don't matter. George Bush thinks it's funny that people criticize the fact he can't pronounce "nuclear" correctly. I don't think that's funny. I think it's indicative of the fact he's an idiot.

I will repeat, if the OP had simply owned up to the mistake, no problem would exist. The OP instead chose to get defensive about it, and inexplicably others came along to defend the mistake as though it were not a mistake.
