I Just do not get it!!!

I watch the GOP supporters and wonder if they are freaking brainwashed!!

I cannot believe that they actually think Palin is a great choice!

I cannot believe that they think McLame is the "change" candidate after 35 years of doing nothing to change anything!

I cannot believe they would even take a chance on four more years of a GOP administration!

I honestly 100% believe that Dems THINK more than GOP supporters. We use our brain. I don't think most GOP supporters THINK 15 minutes a week about the issues and analyize topics. I think most (not all) of them listen to Limbaugh and Orielly and it reinforces their belief that they are right.

Last night after hearing the GOP people praise the ticket and the convention I realized I am living in another world than they are. In my world people think and read and discuss the topics. I can't understand their world!

I never will!

They are. So are a hell of a lot of people. Do some research on the neurological effects of television. The link below will give you a good start, with more leads.

Added: Al Gore covers this topic very well in "The Assault on Reason" - First or second chapter IIRC. Must read.

I work amongst a bunch of them and they act as if I'm some alien or something because I don't fit their mold.

Frankly, I am very thankful that I still have the ability to THINK instead of simply FOLLOW.

15. K&Red for one of the truest posts ever on DU. America = The Twilight Zone.
I keep thinking that this seems like a bad episode of "The Twilight Zone". One where a good candidate comes along with all the right answers, only to have to voters fawn all over the vacant Other candidate who smiles as she promises doom.

17. JOhn Dean has a wonderful book, (can't remember title...)
about the need of many people to have an AUTHORITY
who knows best, who 'watches over them,' and
dictates everything, including morality.

This need for a Big DAddy Voice is what makes for
republicans, who live in a black-and-white world,
where everything is good or bad.

If they are told something is good, that's what it is.

Author George Lakoff has a series of books about how the
Neo-cons used specific subliminal language to 'hook'
these types of folks... like code words that click
into subconscious fears. Words like 'terrorism,'
'pro-life,' and 'family values.'

Altho many of us have the ability to realize that
there are layers of meaning to many words,
these 'authority needers' don't bother with
nuance, and sluff off any 'gray' areas.

This is way most folks thought McCain did well at
the ridiculous SaddleBack forum. He gave the 'stock'
answers. That's all they need to hear.

But as we all know, once these fearmongers get in office,
they do what they wanna do.

Sarah Palin is either a fast learner,
or else she is a puppet.

I know people who think Bush, McCain and the GOP suck and oppose them, but even they don't get the whole picture and they think you're crazy, if you try to tell them.

I was having lunch with some people a few weeks ago and they were all ragging on the GOP. I tried to explain some of the workings of the shadowy people behind the scenes and one of the guys rolled his eyes and said "Oh no, here come the conspiracy theories."

That's how ingrained the propaganda is.

P.S. Check my sig

20. They're Cling-ons.
They have a belief that cannot be changed. Maybe they were taught. And maybe they came from an authoritarian family. Maybe it's a husband who is an authoritarian. But they must not alter the concept they have. This, I believe, describes some of them. Others are just stupid, and they're in with the wrong crowd.

A wife upholding a husband's ideals. A son, for a father.

Huh, I just realized why the Palins were passing that baby around. Musical baby. Just who's is it? I'm partially awake. Sorry.

21. I couldn't watch much of their convention, but the few times I did,
I tried - really tried - to get in their heads. How in the world could they support these candidates and these issues?

I really wish I could see some, any, logic in what they do, but can't. It feels we are living on different planets.

22. They are
putting zero effort into THINKING - that takes intellectual curiosity. They hear the word TAXES and have been trained to yell LIBERAL! You and I know that this is absurd and we also know why we are in the worst fiscal situation ever - Currently, we tax the middle class into oblivion and give the big breaks to big business.

They are unable to think outside the FoxBox.

23. I cringe to say it, but I think a lot is due to 1) racism
2) the conservative ownership of the media. But mostly racism.

I went to a 50% Jewish high school, where the cry "anti-Semitism!!" went up every other day. When an Italian girl was elected Homecoming Queen, there was talk of an "anti-Semitic conspiracy". I kid you not.

So I'm VERY VERY skeptical when someone cries "anti-Semitism!!" or "racism!" or "misogyny!" or "anti-Catholic!" or whatever.

I tend to err on the side of NOT believing it.

But based on listening carefully to moderates and independents I know who aren't voting for Obama, I hear racism under all of it. Sending out racist "joke" emails, saying that Michelle looks "angry", saying Obama is "inexperienced" but Palin is "a breath of fresh air".

I ask myself "would they say that about a white guy with IDENTICAL qualifications and background?" and so often, the answer is no.

24. They are the aliens.
What you saw beamed from St. Paul across America was a highly disciplined gathering of aliens trying to project the outward appearance of human enthusiasm and diversity by dancing badly, chanting pre-programmed slogans, emitting belch-like cheers, contorting their expressions into facsimiles of emotion and nodding constantly. It is very difficult for this particular breed of self-absorbed, greedy, and thuggish humanoid to imitate real joy and hope. But the group in St. Paul were somewhat successful. From a distance and without close scrutiny, the conventioneers could be mistaken for real human beings, although mostly of the white and old variety. (Note: On the ground, or viewed on hi-definition television set, the illusion was less successful.)

Humans should not dismiss these creatures lightly. They are very powerful and have many resources. They have the power to create images and memes that attack the "lizard-brain" and interfere with rational thought and decision-making. They have infiltrated and/or threatened much of the electronic media into echoing their cynical message, without regard for facts or contrary evidence. They are going after the most vulnerable - low information, wedge voters, Wal-mart shoppers and American Idol watchers. They have access to the resources of fundamentalist churches, organizations like the NRA and Aliens for Life, and well-funded think tanks to further their cause.

So what can a mere human do against these creatures?

The first step is to set your phasers to "Melt", aim them at your TV sets, and pull the trigger. (Note: You may also go low tech, e.g. sledgehammers, chainsaws, wirecutters, etc.) Using your newly acquired free time, you must leave your homes to seek like-minded humans who will join you to work hard to do whatever it takes to get Obama and Biden elected.

Right now, in every state, networks of alien fighters are forming. Join one of them today. These aliens must be driven back to their respective spider holes so we can start cleaning up their mess and regaining our sanity.

It's been a disillusioning long five years. Of my friends and family, no one else seems as bothered by it as I am. I definitely feel like no one else gets it, like I do. That's why I come here.
