Palin - my conjecture
OK, this is just guessing, but I'm starting to think the McGramp's camp knew about Palin's skeletons early on - saturday or sunday. It was too late to dump her publicly, they would appear as incompetent as they actually are. Also the fundies would have created a huge floor-fight at the convention. So they just decided to play along like all was well - keep her from the media, let her give her little speech to fire up the fundies, then wisk her off to Alaska for a few days before she "withdraws" from the campaign using some plausible excuse. then McGramps gets to pick his VP.

Its conjecture, but it all fits. It would explain Noonan's/Murphy's open mic comments, and Cindy's pissed look at Palin getting on stage after McGramp's speech. And it lets McGramps dump her with the least amount of egg on his face. while this Palin thing has been hugely entertaining, we may actually be several days late, it's aldready a done deal - she's toast.

1. My conjecture is that they figure they are going to lose anyway, so why not stir up shit
& soil Obama's good populist message.

2. Nah, if they didn't ditch her at the convention, they're putting the whole
stack of chips on her.

3. Earlier today, I heard she was heading to Wisconsin to campaign with McCain
and I also heard she was going to be meeting with ChimpCo tutors to brush up on the issues. Suddenly, she's heading back to Alaska with few campaign days left.

4. I think she may drop McCain, The republicans like her more than McCain
That may have been the plan keep a ringer in the back, let the other side fight and draw up an enemy, then change the target and not let the press get to the person they are really running.

5. My conjecture is - don't underestimate
However, there are different understandings of feminism. There are different ideas of appreciation for "women's roles." McCain has no understanding of the reality of the brand of feminism most widley accepted by our audience.
Obama has been attempting to throw out a large net and capturing a broad range of feminist perspectives. The kicker was at the DNC where he made a universal appeal for equal pay.

Obama was broadcasting from McCaskill's state when he watched the nominating results. One thing I know about McCaskill is that she lost the women's in rural counties when she ran against Matt Blunt. She won it two years later in her Senate campaign. It is pretty reasonable to guess that she is giving Obama insight into this population.
Both candidates have been spending a lot of time and running a lot of ads here.
There are a lot of women running down ticket, and MO represents many various subcultures of the U.S.
They both know that the women's vote vote here will have influence.

When it comes to this state, McCain's not so misguided understanding of women has led him to Palin where she targets the women that McCaskill lost when she lost to Blunt. This happens to be a state where Palin is a good pick.

So, it seems to me that it is partly about hanging on to states they felt might be slipping away. There is a form of feminism that runs through southern culture that we may not relate to. But, it is something that they think they can tap into. I don't pretend to fully understand what they think. I am only aware of some historical context.

From my POV it appears that there are people who will respond to her positively. I think that they were actually targeted- possibly successfully. If another constituency is sacrificed, it may be one that they did not care about.

We should simply focus on electing the best I have seen in my life!

6. I'm tending to think your way .
Her canceled appointments early this week before two pro-life friendly groups, canceling her post-convention appearance in Fl, and their joint appearances in CO and WI. Plus this weekend she alone among Obama, McCain and Biden is not speaking on a Sun talk show.

These are all unusual efforts to keep her away from the press and voters and I doubt it's due to her needing polish on issues. She's smart and most likely a pretty quick study.

I'm thinking she's hiding out for graver reasons, possibly due to the scandals coming out over the next several days courtesy of the NE. The Fundies will understand if McCain has to remove her from the ticket, perhaps due to adultery. Or she can bow out to save the party embarrassment.

He'll then pick a more benign running mate and she'll return to the soap opera in which she's been staring in Alaska.

8. Very Interesting, Indeed
But, can they afford to put her out before the media unprepared. Somewhere, somehow they have to pour some foreign policy knowledge into her head. I don't think she lacks intelligence, but she seems to lack a lot of information. It would take only one grilling in the press on a topic she is unprepared to discuss to make her look beyond silly.
