Voter Switches To GOP Cause $800 Pay Cut Left Her Family Better Off....
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 03:16 PM by cryingshame
A fellow DU'er posted this in another thread and it is so dumbfounding I had to give it it's own thread.

Apparently there may be voters who go Republican because their dwindling paychecks and assets force them to "downsize" their own lives.

This leaves me speechless:

Voters such as Gloria Smith explain this political dynamic. While Smith's husband, who works for American Airlines,
recently took an $800 monthly pay cut, the homemaker from Sand Springs, Okla., just changed her voter
registration from Democrat to Republican.

Smith said her family was "better off" than it was four years ago, "because we've learned to live within our means."

hubby will get another pay cut. Or better yet, get laid off. What morons. Can anyone understand this mentality? Anyone can save money and be frugal, etc. You don't have to have the gov. force you to be that way. What a stupid woman.

12. If less money is better
Then wouldn't that lead to no money being the best of all???

If having less money helps her family "live within their means," then no money at all would help them learn to "live off the land."

Wouldn't it?

20. another gem
Donna Brazile, who was Al Gore’s campaign manager, recalls going to a focus group with 12 undecided women in the fall of 2000.
...
At the focus group with white women, one woman said that deciding who to vote for was like going to the prom. “Wow,” Brazile thought. That was a new one. The woman continued: Al Gore would bring a corsage, and he would ask her parents’ permission, and he would arrive right on time. George Bush, on the other hand, would show up in a convertible with the top down, and he wouldn’t have checked with her parents. “And I would run right out,” the woman concluded on a note of triumph. Brazile figured Gore wasn’t going to get that vote.

Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 04:25 PM by Atman
No way in hell is this story real. The people might be...but I cannot believe for a minute that this is a real couple who really came forward to tell their story. Using tried and true Limbaughvian tactics (ie: suggestive selling), allow me to tell you how I imagine they came about this quote...

Podunk Intelligencerizer"Mrs. Dumbfuck, we notice you recently changed your voter affiliation to Republican from Democrat. Did the President's sound economic policy and get-tough world leadership win you over?"

Mrs. Dumbfuck "Hell no. The fridge was done broke and like a miracle straight from Jesus Son O' God, we gots us a check in the mailbox fer $300 tax refund...another day without it and Clem's Guinesee woulda got warmed."

PI "That was the President's tax cut, that $300. So you're saying it helped you?"

MRS. D "Clinton done that?"

PI "No Ma'am, the current President is George W. Bush...a strong, decisi..."

MRS. D "Oh...you mean that shitheal in Warshington who sended off all of the yunguns to die in Irak? He done gimme a tax cut of $300, then shipped Clems factory job of to China. Then he took both my boys offen to fight Saddam, who ain't never done a damn thing 'gin me or mine. And the widow Crawley's boy done got both his arms blowed off when his Hummvee ran over a Improvised Shaken Beer Can at his base in Irak...so, I guess, he won't be pawin' at Sweet Loretta anymore. Child's barely old enough for breedin' but thet Crawley boy was gropin' her like he was his own kin or somethin! It was disgraceful!"

PI "And he got his arms blowed...er, blown of in Irak? So he can't bother your daughter anymore, right?"

MRS. D"Hell, arms was just the beginning...he got a schrapnel in his Wee Willie Winkie that makes him look like a lawn sprinkler when's he a peein! I doubt he'll be thinking 'bout the fairer sex anymore, 'ceptin in his dreams."

PI"AH HA! So you'd say you're better off since Bush took office?"

MRS. D "Well sure, we's better off under Bush, but not because..."

PI "That's fine, Mrs. Dumbfuck...we've got our quote..."

27. Did you hear that report on NPR's Morning Edition...
...about the CEO who got a $300 million tax cut when his company issued a dividend? Yes, he would have paid $300 million more in taxes had the old laws been in effect when the dividend was paid.

Yet we're supposed to dance around the room for joy because we get a check for $300, or because we pay $50 less a year in taxes, etc.
