Howard Dean with Brokaw: 1st half of speech was good...2nd half she sounded like Cheney.
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 04:46 PM by madfloridian
I do hate quoting Newsbusters, but they have the video and transcript which I have not seen anywhere else. Been gone all afternoon and missed it. At least they cover it, though they disapprove.

Dean with Brokaw about Palin

Video at the link.

TOM BROKAW: What did you think of Sarah Palin last night?

HOWARD DEAN: I think the first half was terrific. I thought she really laid out who she was. I was fascinated. The second half, she sounded like Dick Cheney, she really did. The same old attack stuff, the same old canards about Democrats that mostly weren't true.

BROKAW: But from a tonal point of view, and an introduction of herself to the country, pretty successful speech.

DEAN: You know, I sort of do an informal focus group. My wife has a doctor's office in Burlington and five women work for her and some of them are Republicans. They all said pretty much just what I said: they thought that the first half of the speech was really interesting and that she was kind of mean in the second half of the speech.

Okay, Newsbuster doesn't like it but I think it's funny. Hope someone puts the whole interview up.

Way to go, Howard Dean.

1. I saw it...
the rest of the interview was better. Brokaw asked him if the speech meant Sen. Lieberman was finished qua the Democratic Party. Dr. Dean just smiled and said it's not his decision to make.

I don't have it on tape sadly.

4. I don't even see the interview mentioned here at DU. Had to see it at a right wing site
It never used to be that way here.

I hope someone get the full video up.

3. I saw that today.
Dean was great, Brokaw was a dick as usual. And Howard Dean called Palin out on her lies as a "reformer", and said that the media is starting to uncover the truth about her record, and the GOP didn't like it so they booed the media last night for telling the truth.

6. Can Brokaw carry any more fascist water than he does? Sheesh, Tom. At LEAST wear a newsman MASK
like you did in the old days before 9-11 allowed you to remove all pretense of being a journalist.

7. If the right wing sites get video and transcript up so fast....why can't our bloggers do it?
This way we get it slanted from them.

I don't see this mentioned anywhere on the internet except Newsbusters.

Our bloggers need to get stuff up like they do.

9. no kidding....this is why too many lefties don't even KNOW how a few continue to fight
with no follow up or back up from fellow left activists. Hard to believe this stuff will fall through the cracks in yet another election cycle. You cannot create a wall of noise with inattentive left media and left blogs.

15. That's why I still have to post the research thread that proves media deliberately
ignored Kerry's counterattacks on the swifts and Bush.

8. More from the interview from Political Carnival.
http://thepoliticalcarnival.blogspot.com/2008/09/tom-brokaw-interviews-howard-dean.html

"Howard Dean: She sounded like Dick Cheney. It's Bush/Cheney.. McCain/Palin, it's all the same. What Obama said in his speech was so, but some of what Palin said was so, and some of it was not so. This is not an outsider coming in to reform. These are not outsiders. This is Bush/Cheney all over again.

Brokaw's pushing him to say it was a successful speech.

Howard Dean: The first half of her speech was interesting, the second half mean. People are sick of this kind of politics. Obama wants to bring this country together. Name one thing, just one thing, that Giuliani, Huckabee, any of them said was positive. Not ONE positive thing was said in 3 nights. So far they haven't laid out a platform.

Brokaw shows Lieberman clips from convention speech. Will he be welcomed back?

Dean: That's not my call. Obama is a terrific leader. The second thing he said wasn't true, that Palin's a reformer.

Brokaw: But this wasn't a true or false speech, it was a political speech. I find it hard to believe you're not talking to Reid about his role.

Dean: Politicians are politicians. Tell me ONE THING any of them said that was positive, that would make their lives better."
