McCain Cancels Habitat For Humanity Event in MN
Jason Linkins at Huffington Post:

-snip-

But another part of the reason McCain canceled the outing is because last night, his campaign went out of its way to slag community organizers, defaming them for not having any "actual responsibilities." Habitat For Humanity, as it happens, is one of the biggest brand names in community organizing -- they maintain a massive network of individual donors, are capable of mobilizing an equally impressive volunteer base to contribute labor to the cause, and have a global reach. It's not a bad idea at all to associate one's own brand with Habitat's. But after last night, I have to imagine that McCain would have found it difficult to face the community organizers of Habitat For Humanity.

and I'm sure R.T. Rybak, mayor of Minneapolis, disagrees with Palin. Not every mayor is uncool, like Palin was.

community organizers everywhere. I like it!

29. I knew it as soon as those stupid words came out of that pitbull mouth
that there would be big payback for that.

but still asking how they can be so stupid, or why, to say such a thing?
how does it benefit them to alienate them because whatever we may think is dirty or stupid - sometimes the gop have their own twisted reasons to do shit like this for their agenda.

why would they do/say this if it was not a huge foul-up but intended for the consequences it has?

I come up blank besides the further intentional separation of the haves and have nots - the 'whiners' and the 'winners'.

9. My wife is a choir director at a church
This is an actual tolerable church where the church members are all pretty down to earth. They do a number of things like a fall carnival, Christmas Caroling, volunteering at local soup kitchens, food and clothes drives in the winter months, collecting toys for kids who are without, collecting old cell phones and chargers which are sold for charity fund.

To me this is a community outreach program. In no case do you have to accept Jesus in your life or anything to be a part of these actions. I know thousands of other churches do the same types of community outreach. Were they laughing at them?

22. You are absolutely correct. There are many many religious-based
community groups who do good works rather than disparage those who walk the walk. There will be blowback from this angle.

The irony is that the RNC spent the first day of the convention fund-raising for a "group" to provide a service to many "communities" of people affected by Gustav.

But Ms. Diarrhea-of-the-mouth doesn't care.

They wanted the government out of a lot of social programs and for these types of organizations to manage these programs.

And they deserve it. I have been a community organizer within the autism community and I can tell you that I don't want a "friend" in the White House that makes the hard work that I and thousands of other parents have done to help our children a snarky political JOKE.

41. Post from HFH web page (40+ RNC volunteers were supposed to help)
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 04:28 PM by catgirl
This is really sad. Habitat For Humanity would have had a lot of help for a few hours, in
return for a photo op. The McCain campaign blew them off. This should be in the next
Obama ad. This will surely kill any chance for a McCain win in MN- not that he would have
won anyway- and it will resound in all the swing states.

While I'm glad they screwed up again, it's still sad how obvious they were in their disregard
for HFH volunteers and the people who need help with housing. McCain's a coward.
