Obama On Bill O'Reilley Tommorrow - Will It Be Like Dodd's Appearance Re Kos?
I still don't see what Obama gets out of appearing on Bill O'Reilly's show. I expect O'Reilly to perhaps do the same thing he did in the Dodd interview. I expect Bill to pull similar crap where he will note Obama association with a liberal group numbering in the thousands, note the activities of an isolated few, then argue that Obama endorses such extreme views by virtue of his participation.

1. After All The Smears, Lies, Snipes, Falsities That Were Leveled At Obama....
by Ghouliani, Palin, Huck and Mitt - going on O'Rielly seems tame for Obama. I'm sure he'll do just fine. I bet Obama will have a few rejoinders for him tomorrow.

2. It does sort of piss me off that O'LIElly kind of gets rewarded for his assinine behavior.
If Obama MUST go on FAUX NOISE, why THAT show, of all the shows that he could go on....?

I would rather he did not appear on FAUX NOISE at all. They do not deserve the courtesy of having any Dems on their shows...

12. He's keeping a promise made to the man.
Don't you remember? O'Reilly was at an Obama speech during the primary (can't remember exactly when/where, but O'Reilly's behavior was the topic of much amusement on Countdown and elsewhere), he yelled to get Obama's attention, and Obama said he'd come on the show "after the primaries."

Well, it's "after the primaries." He said he'd do it. Can't very well go back on that now; anyway, he'll be fine.

4. I don't like the idea
it's a huge difference in the caliber of the people. It give me the same dismay I felt when a debate was discussed between Janet Reno and that she bat Anne Coulter. Janet is far superior in intellect and stature than Vampira, but the Parkinson's slows down her thought processes and delivery speed. It would have been a disaster. Coulter was like a grizzly ghoul panting for the opportunity to embarrass and maul a better opponent. I don't trust O'Liely to engage in a fair exchange of ideas. He'll have a predetermined list of talking points and just repeat them over and over. He is not a worthy opponent.

by all Democrats, including Obama. All this does is legitimize them.

6. If he can pull it off...
...it's a great P.R. move, as it will serve as a "pre-buttal" to McCainiac's speech.

Here's hoping he can pull it off.

7. Political Ju-Jitsu
Obama's going to seem the bright, charming gentleman that he is and Bill-O's going to come off looking every bit the nasty thug that he is. There's just no way in hell that Bill-O bests or even competes with a well-prepared Obama. Never happen.

Plus, as an special bonus feature, Obama will be using one of the worst of the bad guys as a tool with which to gut the Repiglican standard bearer's big night.

Not all politicians are bright or talented enough to be able to pull off something so audacious -- but Obama? I heard Spike Lee likening him to Michael Jordan the other night. Sounded pretty apt to me. I expect Barack will bring his A-Game. Best of luck to Bill-O and his Repiglican pals. They're going to need it.

17. I think you're right

When the Kerrys were doing interviews for their book, I was not the only Kerry supporter who worried when they went on the show. In fact, they were easily able to control the conversation - and while O'Reilly didn't agree with them, they got their message out and looked intelligent and classy doing so. I have no doubt that Obama will do the same. (In fact, Obama has the advantage that he is now very likely to be the next President.)

Using Dodd's experience is a worst case scenario. On the talk shows, when he was running, Dodd was usually not that persuasive - and I was one of the people wanting him to do well because I had yet to find a candidate I was 100% comfortable with.

8. Everyone Notice: Palin or McCain are not doing any of the
talk shows (MTP, FTN ect..)
She talks tough but bails on taking any kind
of cross-examination.
Hell, McCain bailed on Larry King last nite.
It would be good for us to keep this narrative
front and center!

9. I think this is a good idea...
Especially since Obama can (and will) more than hold his own. This will show his toughness and intelligence to a completely different audience. I hope the Fox nuts offer up each and every last bullshit rumor and misinterpretation, allowing Obama to hit it out of the park. He might not convert 'em, but he'll show that he's unafraid of talking to those not in the choir and make it more difficult for the haters to do what they do best - hate.

10. And that has been IMHO why he has been so successful
-by putting himself in "unfriendly" territory most Democrats (rightfully or wrongfully-depends on your point of view) usually avoid he demonstrates the courage of his convictions and that he is willing to listen and talk directly to "the other side" however wrong or misbegotten "the other side" may be. It may not win him any votes but it does keep Obama out there in the public eye and gives him an opportunity to show a wider group of people that he is NOT the "boogeyman" that McSame/Palin and the rest of the GOP want everybody else to believe he is. I can't say that I'm not anxious at all about Obama going on
"O'Lielly's" show tonight but I have faith that he wouldn't be going on there without some kind of plan to avoid being slimed by him. It may be wishful thinking but maybe he might even be able to "charm" him a bit. He's been pretty successful DESPITE incredible odds of drawing in some GOP voters like my mother and mother-in-law (here in Indiana) and maybe this will help more with that. I don't hold out a lot of hope for any of the hardcore Fox News personalities and think they are all pond scum (Colmes excluded but he's certainly not much help) but if Obama were to go on any Fox show I'm at least glad that he's NOT going on Hannity & Colmes!

a divide and conquer scenario. We all know McCain and Palin will never go on the Bill Maher show to debate the facts.

I am not sure what it is but I am leaving it up to him.

16. O'Reilley Is Going To Try To Rattle Him By Acting Like An Ass
The question will be how to handle it without acting like an ass yourself. In other words, O'Reilly tries to provoke the other person into acting like an ass or just getting shouted at. It can be a no win if Fox wants it to be, though that would also confirm that Fox is not legitimate if Bill fails to treat Obama with any respect before a National Audience.

While Palin spent the last week hiding from the press, Obama offered to go into the lion's den.

19. O'Reilly might decide to tred carefully tonight.
As delusional as the people at Fox News are, even they realize there's a very good chance Obama is going to win this election and a superb chance Democrats will completely dominate Congress. Fox News probably doesn't want to be completely frozen out by the people in power for the next four years. They want to continue to pretend that they're a news organization, which means they need Democrats to continue to be willing to appear. For that reason, I'd guess Murdoch and Ailes have already told O'Reilly to dial it down.
