About ten years ago, my family was involved in a serious car wreck that left my youngest brother paralyzed from the neck down. He's had to fight battle after battle after battle to just make it through the day.
Sarah Palin claimed this evening that a McCain/Palin administration would be a friend to families with children with special needs. While that was a beautiful (if empty) gesture, I wish that she would join her running mate John McCain in supporting embryonic stem cell research.
I have often wondered what my brother's life would have been like over the past eight years if the Bush administration had put their full weight behind embryonic stem cell research. I don't want to say that he would be walking right now, but who knows? Doing something is better than nothing like Sarah Palin wants.
Governor Palin, if you really want to be a friend to families with special needs, I strongly urge you to join with all of us that want to desperately see what we can do with more research into embryonic stem cells. Until then, don't fucking tell us that you'll be a friend to us. Actions speak louder than words and those that oppose embryonic stem cell research are no friends of mine.
