Don't get me wrong; Joe is my guy. In an actual two-way discourse he WOULD demolish her. But we don't have "debates." We have media-selected questions with time limits on responding. All they have to do is ask questions she can handle, like "do you love Jesus?" or "when does life begin?" or "what caliber bullet is needed to take down a moose?" and avoid substantive questions Joe would excel in.

They could probably quote Bible passages and tenets more accurately than Palin.
They'd know more about Christian faith and its many expressions as well as about other religions.
