Excerpts of Palins speech courtesy of ABC:
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09/palin-comes-to.html

The RNC has released these excerpts of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's speech tonight.

"I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town. I was just your average hockey mom, and signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids' public education better. When I ran for city council, I didn't need focus groups and voter profiles because I knew those voters, and knew their families, too. Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a ‘community organizer,’ except that you have actual responsibilities."

On why she is going to Washington, D.C.:

"I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I’ve learned quickly, these past few days, that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone. But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion -- I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country."

On energy policies:

"Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America’s energy problems -- as if we all didn’t know that already. But the fact that drilling won’t solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all. Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we’re going to lay more pipelines ... build more nuclear plants ... create jobs with clean coal ... and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources. We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers."

On John McCain:

"Here’s how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then, there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change."

1. Slam at Obama on community organizer
Someone please bring up the fact she has a B.S. in Journalism and no further education since then (over 20 years ago). Knowledge is a good thing, not a bad thing.

7. She better not bring up the fact that she is a woman. I heard
these Repig women on C-Span that we are not allowed to talk about her like that.
It makes us look sexist, ya know!

16. As an objective independent...
You're 100% correct. There is no flair. There is no unity here. There's no preaching of unity but of "her".

She turned this into an about her, her, her. People will see right through that. Of course she's introducing herself. However, even when she went into talking about energy policy it's the same old hogwash we've heard. There is no specifics, there is no way to explain to us how she's going to pay for all these alternatives. There is no solid plan.

They harped on Obama about specifics but the MSM's failure is to never focus on McCain specifics. How do we maintain war, how do we get these alternatives and still give tax breaks (and who gets them)? This is a mess of a speech and she knows nothing but weak and loose talking points.

Independents and Moderates with brains won't even hear her after "hockey mom".

as governor. She is a monster.

19. Reads like a movie trailer for a bad movie.
Edited on Wed Sep-03-08 06:54 PM by tinrobot
When you watch a movie trailer and they show a bunch of mediocre clips and one great shot, you know the movie is going to be a dud. If the movie was good - all the clips would be great.

In reading the previews for her speech -- looks like there's one good line in there, the rest of the stuff is boilerplate and mediocre. If that's the best she's got, this speech is going to be a snoozer.

21. Hard hitting speech
it will rile the base up well.

We have our work cut out with this one. Fortunately there's a ton of ammo against her. a We will see how she does once she has to answer questions.

22. Barely on the national stage and already criticizing the media?
That will help her.

Her dig at Obama's community organizing is childish at best. This will play well with the Rush Limbaugh crowd, but I think she will lose moderates with this behavior.

They are trying very hard to run Palin against Obama. She's a little arrogant isn't she? She not running for president. And she's going to look pretty silly because Obama's not going to bite. He will ignore her and make her look as irrelevant as she is.
