The thing to remember here is that the Alaska First mentality runs deep in Sarah Palin. When she first was asked on camera about her opinions on becoming the VP candidate, and after saying she’d need to find out “what it is that the Vice President does every day”, said that she would only accept if she thought her position there would be “fruitful” for the state of Alaska. Her son Track has a tattoo of the state of Alaska (and a Jesus fish tattoo). Do people from California, or New Mexico, or Pennsylvania have tattoos of their state map? Probably not. Here? Pretty mainstream.

BTW, this sure does explain why Palin was willing to travel 13 hours to Alaska to deliver Trig, when there were perfectly good hospitals in Texas -- she wanted Trig to be a natural-born Alaskan, in case he runs for president of the Nation of Alaska someday. This makes much more sense than "you can't have a fish-picker from Texas" the weak explanation offered by Scott Palin.

This also explains why she thinks its a-ok to take millions of dollars for wasteful civic projects aka bridges to nowhere in Alaska... AIP has resentment and disdain for the US... but they only have 5% of the popular vote so they are stuck in this union. but hey, might as well take as much as they can from the federal gov't while they're stuck with it, right?
