McCain backer to reporters: "you can do what you want to do, but we're going to come back at you"

http://www.boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2008/09/mccain_backers_1.html

<snip>

The remarks, made at a press conference at the Xcel Center here hours before Palin was scheduled to address the party's convention, were the latest in a concerted effort by McCain's campaign to paint Palin as a victim of unfair media treatment.

"You can do what you want to do, but were going to come back at you,' said Renee Amoore, a Pennsylvania businesswoman and party official, taunted the dozens of reporters in attendance.

1. As someone so eloquently put it: "Bring it on"
Hilarious and laughable if she thinks that there's anything left for them to come back on.

Republicans hate being called out on their own bullshit.

3. Am I reading this wrong?
Is the McCain camp really interested in getting into a slapfight with the news media two months before the election? Oh, boy! This will be fun!

4. Very smart...antagonize the press
Do they expect the press to just lie down and let Palin go unchallenged? I guess so...

it's so funny to see Republicans claiming "character assasination". Could it get any richer? They're the only ones who are still bringing up the Bristol story! Apparently, questions about qualifications are OFF LIMITS!

The "we" doesn't include Palin? Where is she?
"We are going to come back at you." That's what we want you jerk! The press asks questions, the nominee comes back with answers. That's the way it is supposed to work. Palin has been hiding for how many days now?

16. hmmm, TPM notes that Meg Whitman was a bit "off message" earlier...

http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/09/mccains_national_cochair_media.php

Meg Whitman, McCain's national campaign co-chair and former CEO of e-Bay, veered off message today in an interview with Fox News, describing the media vetting of Palin as "completely fair" and saying that there hasn't really been any sexism to speak of in the coverage.

"I actually think it's completely fair for the media to vet Sarah Palin," Whitman said, adding that it was "the right thing to do" for the media to dig into the background of someone who is "running for the highest office in the land."

Asked directly whether there had been any media sexism, she replied: "I wouldn't say there really has."

Someone should tell this to McCain senior adviser Steve Schmidt, who actually complained today that the press was "on a mission to destroy" Palin.

19. My reply (since it may not actually get posted):
So, let's review. Earlier today McCain and the GOP informed us that we, the American people, are not allowed to question or look into Sarah Palin's experience or qualifications, as if the U.S. were a dictatorship. And now the GOP is threatening the press - as if the U.S. were a dictatorship?

I see.

23. I realize that Palin thinks the Founding Fathers wrote the Pledge, but maybe
someone needs to remind the Repukes of another famous Founding Father, Benjamin Franklin, who said "Never disagree with a man who buys ink by the barrel."

They love to push back, but they can only push back so far. The Internet is the new "ink".
