Talkingpointsmemo: Palin Refuses to Testify
Palin Refuses to Testify

09.03.08
By Josh Marshall

It didn't take long. We've already brought you news of the official investigation into Gov. Palin's firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. Steve Branchflower, the lead investigator, began trying to arrange a deposition of the governor days before her veep selection. And despite claiming executive privilege to shield requested emails, up until that point Palin had promised full cooperation with the probe.

Now, however, she is refusing to submit to questioning by Branchflower unless he and the legislative committee that appointed him agree to relinquish control of the investigation and turn it over to a state review board made up of three Palin appointees.

Yesterday, Palin took the unusual step of having her lawyer, Thomas van Flein, file an ethics complaint against her with the state's Attorney General. This, she hopes, will lead the AG to give the investigation to the aforementioned state personnel board. Unless that happens, and Branchflower agrees to close down his investigation, she will refuse to testify.

18. That she is...
Speaking before the Pentecostal church, Palin painted the current war in Iraq as a messianic affair in which the United States could act out the will of the Lord.

"Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending out on a task that is from God," she exhorted the congregants. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan."

Religion, however, was not strictly a thread in Palin's foreign policy. It was part of her energy proposals as well. Just prior to discussing Iraq, Alaska's governor asked the audience to pray for another matter -- a $30 billion national gas pipeline project that she wanted built in the state. "I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that," she said.

I read where a Canadian woman said that if she lived here she'd have a hard time deciding between Obama and McCain.

:wtf:

28. Ughhh!!!

Hopefully American women will wake up and vote!

The McCain ticket just became an EXTREME anti-choice. anti-woman, and anti-environment ticket! The woman he selected is not one of us progressive women that have fought for equal rights all these years. In fact, she rode in on our coat tails! I resent the hell out of her for thinking she can pick up where Hillary left off! I resent McCain for thinking - "Any ovary will do!". THAT is what's sexist!

I grew up in a more environentally isolated area than Sarah did. Half of us became environmentalists, half of us became exploitationists. Sarah can speak for her own kind, but she sure as hell dosn't speak for me!!! Yep, she became one of the exploitationist!

I just had an educated woman from Canada tell me this morning that she'd have a hard time deciding whom to vote for if she lived here.

Said she'd vote for Nader if she wasn't in a "swing state".

And she is firmly PRO CHOICE.

31. Thank Goddess she's not in the US, right?
Hey, I grew up in a remote area that is pretty much the same as Alaska. This ticket doesn't fool anybody but the people that already supported McCain in the first place (reluctantly). BUT, it fires up the other half of the ticket too - those that were luke warm on Obama and were pro-choice, pro-environment, anti-war, etc. Ya win some, ya lose some.

I'm a TRUE frontier woman feminist and I'm puttin' on my mud boots to go fight for Obama!

10. Jayzus, could she have announced any louder that she's guilty?
Wow. She's going all hardball on the investigation at this stage especially with the press attention all about her?! This could have been handled a lot more quietly but now that she's ramped up her defense to nuclear level, she's exposing herself.

K & R. Troopergate just got real legs.

and now dodging a summons to testify under oath. This person hasn't been in the public eye for a week and she's already acting like the scum we've been facing for the last 8 years.
