I took that story to mean he's was a typical kid from a blue collar family who's like "you and me", but, as usual, I missed the "macho" meaning that any man would understand. He's a fighter. I guess "scrappy kid from Scranton" conveys that, too, but the image of him as a kid standing up for his brother makes me think of my own 15 year old son and some of the inevitable bully run-ins he's had over the years. Kids are told not to fight back, go tell a teacher, ignore it, but of course his dad and uncles tell him sometimes you have to take a stand . . .
