Founder Of Group Palin Courted Professed "Hatred For The American Government"; Cursed "Damn Flag"

The founder of the Alaska Independence Party -- a group that has been courted over the years by Sarah Palin, and one her husband was a member of for roughly seven years -- once professed his "hatred for the American government" and cursed the American flag as a "damn flag."

The AIP founder, Joe Vogler, made the comments in 1991, in an interview that's now housed at the Oral History Program in the Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government," Vogler said in the interview, in which he talked extensively about his desire for Alaskan secession, the key goal of the AIP.

"And I won't be buried under their damn flag," Vogler continued in the interview, which also touched on his disappointment with the American judicial system. "I'll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home."

1. How is the AIP not a group of traitors?
I believe there is still a Civil War era federal law which makes advocating seccesion treason.

Only the GOP could manage to run a professed traitor as Vice President.

6. I don't think so.
Most countries have laws that punish persons who secede or attempt to secede. The United States has no specific law on secession, but the federal government and state governments maintain laws that punish Sedition and other forms of insurrection against the government. On the federal level, for example, chapter 115 of title 18 of the U.S. Code Annotated identifies Treason, rebellion, or insurrection, seditious conspiracy, and advocation of the overthrow of the government as criminal offenses punishable by several years of imprisonment and thousands of dollars in fines. These are the types of crimes that can be charged against persons who attempt to secede from the United States.

15. I was remembering something from my AP government class
Which was a few years ago. :eyes: It was my understanding that in the aftermath of the Civil War, the federal government put into place laws which made advocating secession tantamount to treason. I was remembering them as direct laws, but maybe not.

Damn, and I was hoping we could legitimately paint Palin as having documented ties with an organization that advocated treason. :patriot:

5. From Wiki, it says this
"In November 2006, the Supreme Court of Alaska held that secession was illegal, Kohlhaas vs. State, and refused to permit an otherwise proper Initiative to be presented to the people of Alaska for a vote."

7. Offsets the right wing charge about Obama and Ayers
As absurd as the claims about Obama and Ayers are, nonetheless they are out there. Well, if Obama's crime is to be acquainted with a man who was a terrorist when Obama was 8 years old, isn't even worse that Palin actively courted an organization that had a hatred for the U.S. Constitution?

It seems to me, Palin is a godsend to the Obama campaign. Singlehandedly, she is blunting the criticism of Obama's experience, upbringing, and political acquaintances.

proud of America until recently, huh? Our party needs to pump these details, dammit!

14. Where is the beef?
Why won't these reports show where she was a member? They just tease with weasel words like
"courted" or "husband was a member" etc. Where is the smoking membership card?

How hard can it be to just produce the data?
