Part of there talking points should be why Bush is not farther ahead, after all according to Gallup no true incumbent has been re-elected when he does not lead by more than 9 points by the end of August.

1. right now they should be puffing up bush for the debates

they should be constantly reminding people that bush has never lost a debate, and has always found a way to connect with the people and score points in debates. in part he achieves this by avoiding intellectual (and even intelligible) responses. but the point is it's tough to beat bush in a debate (especially when it's the republican media that crowns the winner).

heightening expectations for bush prior to the debates is a key tactic in winning the debates.
