2. Unfortunately, they have votes
And this Palin pick seems to have energized them. Luckily, they seem to be way outnumbered by the votes that McCain will lose by picking such a trainwreck of a running mate.

8. I suspect the whole "energized base" talking point is bs.

9. Depends how representative the conservative media is
The Freepers certainly love her, as do right-wing newspaper columnists and bloggers. Whether that will translate to Joe Sixpack remains to be seen. The latest opinion polls don't look too hopeful for the Pubbies.

14. I think you may be right. I mean, what else are the GOP True Believers...

... gonna say when the camera's on and the microphone's live?

Besides, McCain's "soft" supporters are the ones that matter to GOP prospects. And THEY are pretty disgusted with the whole mess he's made, and are giving Bob Barr and Ron Paul some some fondly nostalgic looks these days.

10. Because the republican coalition is held together by bailing wire and spit
Edited on Wed Sep-03-08 07:44 AM by davepc
the fundy wackos are the ground troops of the republican machine.

Its like the story of the Golem...the republicans created the religious right to do their bidding, but now they've gotten power and are trying to take over from their master.

12. LOL yes it is
The difference in the US is that, from what I could see on TV last night, "THE BASE" is a bunch of old, rich white people in their own exclusive little club.

7. The base is down to about 24% nowdays.
So really, they SHOULDN'T be focused on their base. Their base would vote for ANYTHING with an R after its name. Frankenstein's monster, a sperm whale, a roll of toilet paper, doesn't matter.

11. The batshit crazy reich wing base is going to scare America away from
Secessionist Sarah and McBush.

Any non racist with a brain will gladly vote the Obama/Biden ticket over those right wing fanatics.

Of course the dems need a massive GOTV operation this fall, Obama's ground operation is the best so I hope that goes well.

13. I'm pleased to see it talked about so openly.
Let the GOP paint itself into a corner by branding itself the Christian Conservative Party. That's a narrow demographic, and won't sell their ticket.
