About the Florida Senate race:
Who is going to be the Republican Candidate? I hope that it is McCollum because he's too far to the right. I hear that Martinez can win the Hispanic vote. Details please.

1. My $'s on Martinez
Polls show the race fairly close heading into Tuesday's primary. One had Martinez up 33/27, the other McCollum 35/31. However, Martinez has been surging ever since he entered the race. McCollum's stayed pretty even at his early numbers.

Doug Gallagher may get enough to hurt Martinez. This guy's thrown millions into the campaign and is polling around 10 %. He's been especially critical of Martinez.

Martinez certainly has the momentum and I guess that he'll win on Tuesday.

2. It is very close
Im thinking Martinez may pull it out...at first it didnt look like it, because McCollum has a strong conservative track record, but Mel has the Bush White House support....if Mel wins, look out...he'll grab the SoFla Hispanic vote and the Orlando Puerto Rican vote, and may grab some swing voters since he is more moderate than McCollum...if McCollum wins, Castor wins in the General Election.

13. Rove's candidate will win
So Martinez is a near cinch.

That is my only admiration for Karl Rove and this administration, the take charge guts to isolate the most electable general election candidate in races around the country and back them fully in the primary, instead of letting local bozos reward some flawed mediocrity. I'm absolutely desperate for us to follow suit, and avoid so many of the second-tier candidates we fielded in 2002.

Riordan in the 2002 CA governor's race was virtually the only high level candidate who lost with White House backing, as the CA conservatives brilliantly preferred Simon. Arnold became the mulligan replacement coup a year later.

3. Look, Mel Martinez is a do nothing candidate....
...he does nothing no matter what office he holds, he does absolutely nothing! He is a parasite of the very air he breathes.

5. McCollum and Martinez......fight over who is the best conservative.
I'm the best conservative....no, I am. I hate liberals the most, no I do. That kind of thing. The family values stuff in the ads is so overwhelming.

9. Martinez is running way right
Even the Palm Beach Post, who endorsed Martinez, commented on how far right he's ran recently. He's criticizing McCollum for supporting stem-cell research and a hate crime law. I didn't think it would be possible for someone to question McCollum's conservative credentials, but that's exactly what Mel is doing.

11. I think so
He's really deviated from the moderate image he was trying to present. I believe he's done damage to his general election campaign this past week.

14. There could be division within the GOP
I read an article today where McCollum publicly stated that he wouldn't support Martinez in the general. Of course, I could see him changing his mind by Tuesday night.

It'll be interesting to see how the general plays out. The I-4 corridor is where Castor will win this Democratic primary. Those same swing voters from Orlando through Tampa could decide the November election.
