Sarah Palin and the fringe Alaskan group

One of the best things about Sen. John McCain naming Sarah Palin to be his running mate is we're learning a lot of fun facts about Alaska.
For instance, it had completely escaped my notice before now that there was an organization called the Alaskan Independence Party, some of whose members apparently want to secede from the United States. (I thought we settled this whole secession thing in 1865 but apparently not.)
The reason the Alaskan Independence Party is getting some attention now in the lower 48 is because Gov. Sarah Palin, Sen. John McCain's running mate, had some sort of affiliation with it.
Members of the group are saying she was a member but the McCain-Palin campaign isn't fully answering reporters' questions about whether Palin belonged to the group or not. The above video is of Palin congratulating the group on its 2008 convention. She doesn't acknowledge being a member of the group and her comments seem fairly generic, like she was playing it safe.
