Electing labels: POW, Mother, Maverick
I just want to make an observation after sitting at the kitchen table this morning and watching Schuster grill one of the endless parade of RW spokesmodels the Rs turn out to make the harsh policies they propose more palatable. Well, David Corn was on and the discussion was about Palin and a lot of the new oppo information that we've seen on this board in the past 24 hours. The young woman had no really salient answers about what really qualifies Palin to be VP, particularly when you use McCain's stated criteria for VP selection. AND she would not address the vetting that did not occur. She just kept saying "But she's a Mother" and alternatively that Palin is a "Maverick." Hearkened me back to the "he's a POW" and a "Maverick." Nothing else about McCain and Palin are seen by the R strategists as being of importance beyond these labels. Billions of people in the history of mankind have been prisoners of war and billions of women have been mothers. Not all POWs or Mothers are noble. Obama has defied labelling and is successful because of it. The POW and the Mother are not offices we are seeking to fill right now. Let's keep this in mind as we talk about who we want to be President and remember to bring those we speak to back to that.

2. The right is masterful at getting the M$M and everyone repeating their talking points.
They are now referring to Palin as "the reformer," "a maverick in her own right," and an "independent thinker." Again, I'm not sure how we address these fallacies. If they are repeated often enough, they become the truth. How do we combat this narrative?
