Ben Barnes was Lt Gov in 1969... Bush entered Guard in 1968...
I was just presented with this contraction...

Here's the "proof".
http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ref/abouttx/ltgov.html

Barnes said "I got a young man named George W. Bush in the National Guard when I was Lt. Gov. of Texas".

What's missing here?

2. This needs to be addressed
and corrected IMMEDIATELY !!!! Otherwise, it's going to be used as perfect ammo by the pukes. Barnes is a liar. I can hear it now...and of course, the media will be most helpful. It'll be the new CAMBODIA. It's obviously a slip of the tongue, but it'll be construed as proof that Barnes doesn't know what he's talking about.

4. Barnes' office
The salient point is not what office Barnes held at the time but that he leapfrogged Bush over hundreds of other young men waiting to get into the Guard. Some of those young men died in Vietnam--a very high price for Shrub's safety. (And as usual, paid by someone else.)

3. I remember Barnes getting involved in the Sharpstown scandal
during that time - He was an influental rising star in Texas politics in the late 60s.
and Speaker of the House then.
He is still a weasel.

5. Get Your Dates Straight
Ben Barnes was a protege of John B. Connally and was
a very powerful Speaker of the House in the Texas
Legislature.

He was elected Lt. Gov., which is the most powerful
position in the state (Gov. is a figurehead position).

The Sharpstown scandal happened in 1971 and ended the
career of every politician who was involved with the
very powerful real estate developer, Frank Sharp.

But Barnes was approached about getting Bush in the
Guard in 1967, when he was Speaker. Barnes first
gave interviews on this back in 1999. You can google
it. It was a Washington Post story, I believe.

8. Wasnt he involved with Freeport MacMoran ?
and the development planned near Barton Springs in Austin back in the late 80s and early 90s? I just feel the man has no credibility.
