Many of us are dismayed about the attacks on Kerry's Vietnam service that apparently weaken his support. I don't know. Polls come and go and things can change by the time the voters actually cast their vote.
Also, it seems that the Kerry campaign was damned if it did and damned if it didn't. When the attacks first started many advised Kerry to ignore them and to concentrate on the issue, which he did. Then, when the swift boat wannabes were getting more and more exposure on the news channels, Kerry did respond and by then, many said was too late.
I agree with many that Cl eland's trip to Crawford did not help Kerry. I also think that complaining to the FEC is a waste of time and does not help, either.
I think that Kerry should just say something like: I served my country in Vietnam and I have the records to prove it. While there, I demonstrated my ability to lead.
What matters now, however, is not a war from 35 years ago but the war right now, where most of us don't know anymore why we went there in the first place and why we are still there.
What matters now is the livelihood of American citizens: their right to be secure in their homes, with adequate jobs, health care now and when they are old and weak.
Vietnam is important as a matter of character - remember how "character" was important for the pugs during the 2000 campaign?

What worries me is his repines to the Iraqi war. When there is a debate, and Bush taunts him that he still supports the war, knowing what he knows now. Having an effective response of this one is more important than how Kerry was wounded in Vietnam.
