Seriously, I can't see how bush has ANY chance
He lost 4 years ago, and has only made enemies since. I just don't get it. At all. How can he not be in the 20%s? Not that many people in the country are freepers, what will it take for them to grow a brain?

1. 2 words
Wedge issues

He focuses on the issues that divide us down the middle.
Gay marriage
Abortion
Guns
etc

Political and economic policy mean nothing to people who have a strong opinion about these things.

I know teachers who vote for Bush simply because they don't like abortion and gay marriage. TEACHERS who are severely underfunded and always at risk for being fired because of no child left behind.

What can I say... people just can't shake themselves out of this mindset.

2. Keep in mind a few things
1. About 25-30% of the country are republicans that will back Bu$h NO MATTER WHAT.
2. Of the about 40% of non-party affiliated, there are many who:
- Think that in general, the repubs are better leaders in times of conflict and that dems are weak on enemies;
- Lean republican and would take a truly special democrat (such as Clinton) to make them vote democrat, and;
- Think that the current state of our country is not the fault of the pResident and in general agree with his policies.

Given that, it shouldn't be surprising that Bu$h consistently gets support in the high 30's. I'd be surprised if it ever fell below that.

3. they control everything . . .
the government, the media, the polls, the voting machines, the campaign agenda . . . everything . . . and they have no intention of allowing Kerry to win, no matter how many legitimate votes he may get . . .

4. Some people are just blind
Some people would rather make sure them queers in Massachussets don't get married instead of say, having a job or healthcare. But it does seem many Republicans are voting for Kerry this time around. I have a hard time believing many Gore voters will vote for Bush unless they've also become brainwashed about Bush's strong leadership nonsense. The only way I see Bush winning this is Diebold.
