Palin strikes!
Just got back from picking up fresh basil at my friend's house. He's a moderate independent who was leaning pretty heavily toward McCain, but today he told me he's voting Obama.

Why?

He LOVES Biden and Palin not only scares the crap out of him in her own right, but it's finally forced him to admit that McCain just isn't they guy he thought we was in 2000. He's questioning McCain's judgment and ability to be President, while Obama's pick of Biden made him think that "Obama is going to take the job of President seriously."

Praise the goddess!

Kber

3. Yup..

I think there's a vocal minority who are promoting her nomination, but most people see it for the ruse that it is.

5. I think McCain may have tossed the independent vote overboard with this one.
But that's what the repubs have been doing for years now anyway.

7. good. I remember an interview with some NH independents
right before the primary and after Biden dropped out. Three middle aged to older white men. They were being interviewed in a coffee shop or McDonalds or something. When asked who they were voting for, they said they had been planning on voting for Biden but guessed they would vote for McCain because they just wanted someone with lots and lots of experience. I hope there are little pockets of them scattered around the swing states. Some of the polling data suggested Biden would do well with independents, and I can't see why Palin would win independents, esp. once her extreme right positions get out.

10. Exactly!!
I suggested maybe McCain's just too old for the job, and he reluctently agreed.

The pick was so bad he was literally staggered.

And he LIKES Biden - a lot!

11. Based on my own conversations so far, it looks like ignorant Repukes swallow the BS about Palin, but
people who think anything about their voting decision are finding the Palin choice radioactive.

16. Haha.
I called ahead and asked and everything!

Besides, it's for a dish for a party at his house tomorrow, specifically requested, so he was more than happy to oblige.

18. My GOP-voting, conservative East Texas parents are skirting my questions
about how they feel about it.

I suspect because they are speechless. I suspect my dad may not vote on the top spot.

I don't think he'll vote for Obama, but he has previously expressed admiration of Joe Biden, and I think he will view Palin as totally unqualified. To a retired Army Reservist like my dad, foreign policy and/or military experience are a must.

I can't wait to actually hear something from them, though. So far, they change the subject. ;)

Republicans just not voting is the same as a vote for Obama.

19. Now I'm "Concerned"...
When I heard the Palin pick, the "gut" told me Commander Huff'nPuff had finally jumped the last of many sharks here...but no sooner did I pop over to DU I was seeing all the "concern" about how she would gobble up all the disgruntled Hillary votes and give a "fresh young face" to Camp Gramps. Or all the "concern" about discussing her lack of experience and a questionable record would backfire on us if we kept bringing these things up. How people are too "stupid" and would vote for the body parts.

The backlash has been quiet and the corporate media, once again, is a day late and with a political tin ear. This pick may have the fundies praising Jeebus, but for those who were moderates, independents and with a clear thought process, it's an indication of how desperate the GOOP has become this year.

Now I really hope her nomination goes through...Commander Huff'nPuff can't bluster his way around this...and how long can he and his campaign try to "shush" away the question?
