I've been dissecting this Palin thing today and it stinks to high heavens! How in the hell
can we take this seriously? I know we HAVE to take it seriously, but come on, when Andrea Mitchell says, "they may have to have someone sit in for Joe Biden in the debate so he won't be too hard..." bullshit! If she can't handle Biden, then how the hell is she going to handle Putin?

And this "executive experience" thing they are spewing...this makes her qualified to be second in command to the highest office in this nation? :wtf:

And let's not forget, the sympathy vote for her having a Downs Syndrome child. This is a slap in the face to many, MANY women who take care of a mentally/physically disabled child daily. I worked as a case worker for mentally/physically disabled children and I have nothing but respect for those who do this daunting and emotionally draining job. But to politicize it--as if she is the only one who has ever made this choice--is beyond reproach. Secondly, there are MANY, MANY PRO-CHOICE women who have made the same decision--because they, HAD A CHOICE!

This VP pick is such a slap in the face to women who have worked hard only to be passed over by the "beauty pagent winner" and we should be hearing women raise the rafters, 'cause let's be real, we all know this was a political choice. There were so many more qualified GOP women...it's just ridiculous.

I guess I should be happy since this is a ticket that is so ridiculous how can anyone vote for it, right? Well, one would hope so, but we have a lot of fundies and Americans who are STUCK ON STUPID.:banghead:

1. It's all about repitition
If/When a Democrat gets any airtime in any form, they constantly need to push these things, and constantly remind the public how McCain has voted over 90% of the time with Bush. It's all about reminding them, because the Republicans will try to pull those invalid arguments.

The Republicans are all about pandering and it's what they do best. Just keep pushing out the facts.

2. Biden V Palin ... deer meet headlights. Biden can't win. If he demoralizes her she gets sympathy
if he doesn't she "does better that expected". I'd like to see Biden defer to HRC for that debate.

5. Biden needs to keep reminding people
during the debate and any time he can, that the Vice Presidency is "a heartbeat away". And that Dick Cheney has transformed that office into a powerful position. He doesn't have to hammer Palin, just remind us of this over and over and over again.

6. Biden's smart...
I saw him on Realtime with Bill Maher last year and even though he was impressive with his knowledge, he never was pompus or condescending. It was awesome to watch. This was way before he even announced his bid to run for president.

I was so impressed:applause:

4. I seriously don't think this is gonna work for them...
I read a talking point that said that 80% of women carrying down's syndrome babies decide to abort. that is a sad fact, but they were using that to "praise" Sarah for her "pro-life" stance. if they continue to use that line, how is that going to make the 80% of women feel? I know how it would make me feel. they're politicizing a very difficult and personal decision.

Plus, having worked with women in a corporate environment for most of my career, I'm always surprised that women don't really stick up for each other...and you're right, when the pretty one gets ahead, it doesn't go over well.

In an editorial I saw it explained like this...This is another instance where a woman gets promoted for the WRONG reason. Once the mistake is realized, it is the woman's fault....end result, she couldn't handle the position, but if she fails it would be construed that a woman can not be VP....

7. Thank you. They could have picked any number of women in the GOP
But they chose a young pretty one with little to no experience. This is a slap in the face to women and will backfire on them, big time.

10. Very well said!
I too work with children with disabilities ( in Early Intervention) and cringed when I heard the "talking points" by both Palin and the media. They are exploiting that child for political gain (Palin) and entertainment value ( the media) . And I agree with your statement about the parents of children with Downs Syndrome, all of the families I worked with know of the syndrome before birth and chose to keep the child. Many of those women are pro-choice.

11. I think Americans may be getting a little tougher when it comes to...
being emotionally manipulated by candidate images. The old "who would you rather have a beer with" ploy has gotten old.

At least I hope so.

13. I guess this is just as good a place to post this. I was thinking GD,
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 07:10 PM by tnlefty
and I'm not trying to hijack your thread....but for those who don't know me feel free to look up my posts in the TN forum or on the Malloy threads when I've discussed my mother's transformation from being a Bush** voter, to someone who wants him impeached and imapaled (her words not mine, Agent Mike) and she voted for Obama in the GA primary, and she's sticking with that vote into the GE.

At a family gathering today my brother, who I would describe as hard-core rwing libertarian, republican, who doesn't want to pay taxes for anything...brought up that he watched Obama's speech and he will be voting for him in the GE. That was enough to give me a mini-stroke as he is an open racist and despises democrats openly.

His reasons:

1. If he can cut taxes on the middle class and stop the bleeding of the middle class and soak the rich (I couldn't believe that I was hearing that from him).

2. If he'll get us out of Iraq, where we never should've been in the first place, and spend that money at home and to pay down the massive debt that Bush** and the republicans have amassed.

3 .McCain is more of the same and his VP pick is an unqualified disaster.

4. Mom keeps telling me that even though you hold offices in the democratic party, you will trounce democrats who even smack of corruption, whereas, republicans choose to overlook it.

5. Bob Barr might be better at restoring the Constitution and The Rule of Law (this concept we had a nasty argument about a couple of years ago, and he mentioned the message on my answering machine during that argument, but apparently he's seen the light since then), but he doesn't have an ice cube's chance in hell of winning anything, and Obama does.

Really, I don't have the writing skills to convey how much I kept thinking, 'When did you have a labotamy, and why didn't anyone call me to tell me that you were having such major surgery.
