Is it OK to point out that Sarah Palin is a fucking idiot? She went in front of a world-wide TV ...
audience and revealed her kid's MOS, his exact date of deployment, and the site to which he will be deployed. Trust me folks, this just isn't done. My Mom found out that my Dad had been off the coast of Okinawa with his fighter squadron in 1944 only after he got home. She found out that the aircraft carrier that he skippered was on Yankee Station (off the coast of North Vietnam) after he got there. She found out that I had been in the A Shau Valley only after I got lit up.
People, anybody with even a passing acquaintance with military family life knows, you just don't do what Palin did. She's a fucking idiot, and not only her judgment is now called into question, so is that of the man who decided that she's qualified to serve as the second highest elected official in the United States of America.
I could give a flying fuck about her reproductive history. I just know that in a transparent and pathetic attempt to mine a few votes, her words put grunts at risk, and that pisses me off!

I made it crystal clear that I don't give a tinker's dam about "babygate". I care that a woman who wishes to stand a heartbeat away from the CinC of our armed forces, violated OpSec in such a way as to put our troops at increased risk. Do you really need to have this explained to you?

35. Really check out her answers...
On abortion - she actually DOES believe in it:

SP: I am pro-life. With the exception of a doctor’s determination that the mother’s life would end if the pregnancy continued. I believe that no matter what mistakes we make as a society, we cannot condone ending an innocent’s life.

Oh my. Even conservative Catholics have let the mother go to have no abortions whatsoever.

Then for another question:

7. Do you support statewide restrictions on the use of eminent domain to transfer property from one private owner to another?

SP: Yes.

This from the woman who used "eminent domain" to try to get land for a stadium after she was unable to buy the land from a private owner.

I wonder if her son now will be redeployed with a different batallion? One still going to Iraq but a diff. destination.

12. I don't think this is an issue...
We have TV news reports all the time of Wisconsin National Guard Unit thus-and-such being deployed to somewhere, along with video of the boarding the plane. I think the rules are different now that in previous conflicts.

But that Pledge of Allegiance response (downthread). That's a classic!

15. It's all about the judgement.
DoD asks families to keep things quiet. She didn't. Judgement. If your local news team reports on deployments, that's too bad, but the last time I looked, they weren't running for Vice-President.

23. What I'm saying...
is that I'm not certain the DoD requires confidentiality about the generalities -- Unit, Date of Deployment, and Theater. Given that a good number of these troops are Guardsman, it's not like you can keep the unit and date of deployment a secret (they have to notify their employers). And to say "we're going to be in Iraq" really isn't providing valuable information to the enemy -- it's going to be pretty obvious where they are when several hundred of them appear in Anbar Province at the same time.

BTW, Joe Biden's son is being deployed to Iraq on October 3. He's in the 261st Signal Brigade of the Delaware National Guard.

Guess how I know that...

47. It was printed in an interview during the Iowa Primary
He either told the reporter or the reporter is a really good guesser.

Here's a http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/release.aspx?releaseid=12028">Link to a DoD Press Release announcing the deployment of several units (not Biden's). Just an example that this information is not as secret as some people think. If you Google on "DoD" and "Depoylment Announcement" you'll find dozens of examples of the same thing.

"How could anyone select a VP candidate currently under investigation?"

"By now everyone knows that she fired Alaska Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan.

After over 1.5 years of service by Monegan, Palin told residents that the firing stemmed from her desire to "move the department in another direction". After immense outrage from the public and media to explain the new direction she was referring to (Walt is very experienced and loved throughout Alaska), she finally came out about a week later saying that "he wasn't filling needed trooper positions".

Oh, she's a "cunning" one ..that one.
