What do you honestly think the Pubs not having a real convention will
mean in November?

I've been thinking about this all afternoon.

1. Nobody will ever see a aomparrison between the two campaign presentations.

2. The Pubs ducked having to let Shrub & Cheney speak for them on TV!

3. The last real prominent images in the minds of those who watch politics will be Obama/Biden.

4. It will put even more influence on the debates?

What do YOU THINK?

2. We will have to see what McCain pulls off but this is very risky for Republicans

Most people are left with this awesome picture in their head of Obama wowing 80,000 people with tears in their eyes.

3. They are hiding behind the hurricane.
I pray that the storm weakens by night time and I pray for my fellow Gulf State citizens...

But yes they have a justifiable excuse (in their eyes) to shrink the convention down.

11. That's my opinion too
They lack enthusiasm and just imagine if Bush and Cheney were given time to speak at the convention. Republicans have nothing to run on, no substance. So they have to run on negativity and little political tricks (i.e., taking the media attention away from Obama with a off the wall VP selection).

4. I was thinking about that too.
I just watched McCrypt doing his pubic servant announcement and I was struck by how PALE he looked.
I mean pasty, sickly, nursing-home pale.
And WEAK. He looked really friggin' OLD.
That said, I think they will take a hit in the polls. There will not be a 24/7 hoopla of beaming RePugs being interviewed by breathless media talking heads.
It is literally raining on their parade.
They must be puking about now.

5. What is the media going to do? ABC, NBC & CBS all had
4 days of prime time scheduled for coverage of the Pub convention, and all the cable boys had damn near 24 hours! I wonder if they'll just go back to their normal stuff, or maybe just switch their coverage to Gustov!

7. MSNBC has all that Men in Prison crap. CNN can do bits on the Rapture Index.

The regular networks have reality show reruns up the wazoo to run. And Fox will be Fox.

But what will really happen will be newscasts about how wonderful the federal govt responded to Gustav.

8. Yup, Gustov it is.
Then, right on the heels of Gustov comes Hanna (probably nailing the Carolinas).
THEN......there's more tropical waves organizing in the Atlantic that will most likely become hurricanes too.
The networks will have their hands full and no down-time.
I hope someone asks Ms. Creationist about global warming and it's impact on severe weather.

9. Not to mention the loss in ad $$. They're saying they might pull political ads
during the storm. So it will be Gustav 24/7 with a few car commercials, and of course, The Purple Pill, and the everpresent Cialis, lighthouse, bathtub, et all.

6. Gustav works to the Republic Party's advantage. Their convention
was going to suck with all the MIA characters. Now they can blame it on Gustav. And they get to "correct" their Katrina atrocity.

Couldn't have been planned better if China was seeding the clouds.

15. They won't be able to claim they've corrected on Karina
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 04:23 PM by goodgd_yall
because---just my intuition, though it's based on a weather report from this morning---Gustav is going to hit the coase as a less-than-category 3 hurricane. And the levees will hold. If the levees hold, they can't really claim that the system worked this time, because it won't have been tested.

16. The media will sell the image of the organized evacuation to viewers.
That's the "correction." Had the residents been evacuated before Katrina we wouldn't have seen images of desperate people and half-eaten people floating by.

12. Since Gramps has no message, no ideas, nothing to run on, it's a bonus.
They're all relieved, except the wanna-be blowhards who were awaiting, breathlessly, their moment to command the big microphone. (Insert vulgar sexual image here.)

On balance, they also lose the chance to drop alot of unchecked bombs on Obama.

But don't doubt for a minute that the RNC never does anything against it's own best interests.

14. There won't be a post-convention bump
No energizing of Republicans. They needed this---the speeches, the telling what's good about the party, and so on.

17. I think it will have a negative impact on undecideds and independents
Nobody likes it when people act like they have something to hide or don't want to tout their own brand.
