A thought to the "Focus Our Energy" crowd here today.

To all of those lamenting the wasted time and energy on Palin rumors here on DU: If posting crap on DU (regardless of its merit) is what you are "focusing your energy" on to help the campaign, you, my friend, aren't doing anything to help the campaign. DU is great. I spend way too much time here myself. But it is a diversion for my spare time. It is melting pot of ideas and a source of information and insight. I don't consider my posts here to be a part of helping the campaign, to think otherwise is delusional. I give money, I volunteer my time canvassing and working on voter protection. I might humbly suggest to those of you so hung up on who posts what to get out of the house and go volunteer. That will actually have an impact on the election.

1. Why be so nasty?

Look... the fact is that buzz here does get infectiously carried by word of mouth to other sites and into our conversations in real life.

Now that babygate has legs, it would help to generate a lot of noise about Troopergate, her lying about being for the bridge to nowhere before she was against it, the debt, etc.

What gets said here gets spread around. It does have an affect, however small.

2. I'm not trying to be nasty

Not in the least. Tone can be difficult to convey in the written word. If someone really believes that posting here constitutes "doing their part" more power to them, but I would still encourage them to try a phone bank once in a while.
