For about 5 years I've taken communion every Sunday to an elderly member of our parish. First I brought it to her husband and her at their home, then for a while, I'd pick her up and we'd go to the nursing home together and have communion there. Her husband passed away, so now I bring it to her again at her home. She is a 93 year old, strongly prolife republican.
She brought up the convention and said she had watched the speeches. Her summary.
"I don't like any of them. I especially don't like McCain's choice for vice president." "She says she is prolife but doesn't put her kids first. That baby is so young." "she doesn't have any experience." "Biden I like." "Obama is very smart."
I don't think it will make much difference because I'm sure her son helps her with her absentee ballot, but I told her Biden's story of going home every night to be with his sons.
But her reaction surprised me.
