Sample comment 'If that were MY SISTER being abused by <...>, you better believe I'd do EVERYTHING IN MY POWER to keep him away from her.' Nepotism and bypassing of checks and balances do not upset Republicans or Republican-leaning swing voters.

It's an important issue, and I think Palin is in legal trouble, but on a purely political level it is actually earning her points with the GOPers I've talked to. They think that sort of thing 'shows leadership'.

They did not check well with their local party officials in Alaska. It is obvious Palin is in trouble with local Republican party officials (legislature) in Alaska and is/was in the middle of an ethics crisis.

I compare the entire situation with the McGovern campaign when they selected Thomas Eagleton from Missouri for Vice President. Missouri was coming out of the worst Governor (Warren Hearnes) in their history, and the Democratic Party was in disarray. Although Senator Eagleton was an excellent legislator for Missouri it was well known in Jefferson City he had some serious health issues and he was a questionable choice for Vice President. At the time in question it was doubtful any Democrat in Missouri needed to be placed on a National ticket.

Alaska seems to me to be a similar situation, the Republican Party in that State is poison. This is what happens when a local Party is corrupt to its core and there is no direction from the national organization.

I am evermore grateful that Democrats seem to have their act together and have excellent local and national organization.

She appears to have lied about her support to the bridge to nowhere a position McCain uses as a campaign issue. McCain now knows that. My understanding McCain has met with her twice prior to selection. Rove had that smug arrogance supporting Palin he is well known for and when slimes on TV.

Maybe Mr. Rove has handed McCain a poison pill paving the way for a return for BFEE to give Jeb a job in 2012.
