This is the small town where Palin's parents live. It is also where Bristol Palin (age 17) had a car accident last February when she allegedly was too sick to go to school for 4 or 5 months. Supposedly the accident took place in front of a health clinic.

26. The too sick part depends on when you are diagnosed

I had it in high school and was out for a month.

But I was diagnosed very far into having it.

My neck glands were swollen and painful for a long time but I was in a gym class where we were lifting weights so I attributed the pain to that. I didn't pay attention/notice the swelling and because my hair was so long, my parents never saw the neck gland area til it was too late.
The day they pulled my hair back and looked at me their eyes nearly popped out.

I couldn't keep my eyes open in school. Literally. I remember the librarian having to wake me up while I was sitting and trying to study in the library.

In the end, I was out of school for a month. There was one day where I felt "good" and went outside to hang out in my parents' RV. I remember being so exhausted from that short walk from the house and back that I had to crawl back into bed and was really short of breath.

The biggest concern of my pedi doc at the time was liver involvement. I don't know how bad that part got but I know he mashed on my abdomen whenever I went back for follow up visits during that month.

Missed a couple of weeks due to tonsillitis. My glands were swollen and I was very tired. I had gym first period, so I skipped that for about six weeks to sleep longer. My glands would swell intermittently for about six months but it sure wasn't necessary to quit going to school entirely. I wasn't a big fan of gym class anyway.

I had mono back in my early 20's (@'91), and I initially didn't know what I had, but it hit me pretty hard. I ended up in the hospital, getting all kinds of tests run, and then it was finally determined to be mono. I was in the hospital for @ 5 days, and ended up missing 6 weeks of work. I certainly wasn't driving anywhere, because I was pretty much bedridden the entire time. It was a very miserable experience. I can't imagine anyone feeling so bad that they miss months and months of school, but yet, feel ok enough to drive a car. That just doesn't seem likely, IMO.

In fact, whenever someone comes in with mono or EBV that have to be referred to an infectious disease specialist. mono in this century is analgesics for pain and a prednisone taper for the inflammation.

You would be AMAZED at how quickly a person rebounds when they have finished that taper. My daughter had mono 4 years ago and was back at the pool within a week sunning herself. A plethora of her friends got it and as soon as they finished the taper, they were good to go.

It's inconceivable to me that no one visited this girl during her illness that can corroborate the story. No teacher? Not ONE friend?

Went to school with the daughter in question for a few months, before they moved from Juneau to Anchorage.

Word on the street was that she snorted diet pills and smoked other such things. I'm pretty sure she did a lot of other things, too.

This pregnancy rumor has been popping up a lot in our school (well, at least until I graduated last year.) I wouldn't doubt it, either.

a long time ago, I was so tired all the time. I went to the doc and he gave me a shot of prednisone and I was better almost instantly. I still had to rest more, but I was back at school in a couple of weeks.
