Bristol was driving around when she was "sick from Mono"...got in car accident in front on clinic
The baby was born at Mat-Su Hospital in Wasilla, Alaska according to this link:

http://www.adn.com/626/story/382864.html

This is the small town where Palin's parents live. It is also where Bristol Palin (age 17) had a car accident last February when she allegedly was too sick to go to school for 4 or 5 months. Supposedly the accident took place in front of a health clinic.

http://72.14.205.104/search?q=cache:p-HvFrrqJyIJ:blog.myspace.com/index.cfm%3Ffuseaction%3Dblog.view%26friendID%3D11951582%26blogID%3D364234540+%22sedan+driven+by+Joshua+Moffet%22&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=ca&client=firefox-a

Wasilla Police Department On February 8, 2008, at 1737 hours, Wasilla Police responded to two vehicle collision at Seward Meridian Parkway and Fireweed Drive . Investigation revealed that Bristol Palin, age 17 of Wasilla, was driving a 4-door sedan and attempted to turn into a business when she struck a 2-door sedan driven by Joshua Moffet, age 19, of Wasilla. Palin was issued a citation for Failing to Use Due Care to Avoid a Collision. Moffet was issued a citation for an expired registration and no proof of insurance.

1. Does Mono really make you "too sick" or just too contagious to be around others?

36. and some of those times were to cover the girl having a baby
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 01:15 PM by TexasObserver
Mono was a common cover story for girls dropping out of school for a semester.

Funny thing. Never happened to boys. They might miss weeks, but months? Didn't happen.

41. Yep....
...I graduated from HS in the mid-60's and I recall that clearly: Some times it would take girls months and months to get over Mono, but that never happened with boys!

22. Mono's transmitted by saliva.
Seems that a person infected with mono should not be that dangerous to others if that person isn't kissing them or sharing utensils, etc.

There are no requirements for quarantine so if she felt well enough, could have been among the public.

26. The too sick part depends on when you are diagnosed
I had it in high school and was out for a month.

But I was diagnosed very far into having it.

My neck glands were swollen and painful for a long time but I was in a gym class where we were lifting weights so I attributed the pain to that. I didn't pay attention/notice the swelling and because my hair was so long, my parents never saw the neck gland area til it was too late.
The day they pulled my hair back and looked at me their eyes nearly popped out.

I couldn't keep my eyes open in school. Literally. I remember the librarian having to wake me up while I was sitting and trying to study in the library.

In the end, I was out of school for a month. There was one day where I felt "good" and went outside to hang out in my parents' RV. I remember being so exhausted from that short walk from the house and back that I had to crawl back into bed and was really short of breath.

The biggest concern of my pedi doc at the time was liver involvement. I don't know how bad that part got but I know he mashed on my abdomen whenever I went back for follow up visits during that month.

----
Having said all of that..this FIVE MONTH storyline seems like bullshit.

42. sort of same story here
Missed a couple of weeks due to tonsillitis. My glands were swollen and I was very tired. I had gym first period, so I skipped that for about six weeks to sleep longer. My glands would swell intermittently for about six months but it sure wasn't necessary to quit going to school entirely. I wasn't a big fan of gym class anyway.

32. Driving a car when you have mono? Whatever.
I had mono back in my early 20's (@'91), and I initially didn't know what I had, but it hit me pretty hard. I ended up in the hospital, getting all kinds of tests run, and then it was finally determined to be mono. I was in the hospital for @ 5 days, and ended up missing 6 weeks of work. I certainly wasn't driving anywhere, because I was pretty much bedridden the entire time. It was a very miserable experience. I can't imagine anyone feeling so bad that they miss months and months of school, but yet, feel ok enough to drive a car. That just doesn't seem likely, IMO.

39. I had it my junior year
I was out of school for 2 weeks, and it was a horrible 2 weeks. I didn't get out of bed, let alone drive anywhere.

But that's just me. My wife will be the first to tell you what a baby I am when I get sick.

43. Mono is the Epstein Barr Virus
So yes, it does make you that sick and it is considered by us in the medical field chronic. In fact, whenever someone comes in with mono or EBV that have to be referred to an infectious disease specialist. These are people who can not even share water with someone else because they will spread the virus.

17. Actually, I had a friend who did have mono.. She couldn't come out to
play all summer.. 2 months at least without contact of anyone else.. and then she had to forgo sports for the soccer and mid way through basketball season.. because in contact sports, you could die.. one of the organs gets very large and could be ruptured.. Shit, I'd milk it too. She's 17 and her moms the Gov... does she have to accomplish anything in her life? No.

34. Because it is a lie. The standard protocol for the treatment of
mono in this century is analgesics for pain and a prednisone taper for the inflammation.

You would be AMAZED at how quickly a person rebounds when they have finished that taper. My daughter had mono 4 years ago and was back at the pool within a week sunning herself. A plethora of her friends got it and as soon as they finished the taper, they were good to go.

It's inconceivable to me that no one visited this girl during her illness that can corroborate the story. No teacher? Not ONE friend?

27. when a pregnant woman's water breaks, she should go right to the hospital because of the risk...
Still, a Sacramento, Calif., obstetrician who is active in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, said when a pregnant woman's water breaks, she should go right to the hospital because of the risk of infection. That's true even if the amniotic fluid simply leaks out, said Dr. Laurie Gregg.

http://www.adn.com/626/story/382864.html

So much for Palin's lie about giving a speech after her water broke.

Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 11:39 AM by rainbow4321
Went to school with the daughter in question for a few months, before they moved from Juneau to Anchorage.

Word on the street was that she snorted diet pills and smoked other such things. I'm pretty sure she did a lot of other things, too.

This pregnancy rumor has been popping up a lot in our school (well, at least until I graduated last year.) I wouldn't doubt it, either.

35. I think delving this deep into a 17 year old life is dangerous and wrong
Besides, if we are being fair Ashley Biden was once arrested for getting in the face of a police officer regarding a bottle being thrown at a bar. I think lying about something like this would mean Palin is not to be trusted as the leader of ou country but this poor girl did not ask for Sarah Palin to be her Mom. We certainly don't know is she is bratty like the Bush girls were.
