DNC Photo Essay, Part 2: Inside Invesco (Dial-Up Warning)
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 11:54 PM by intheflow
(Part 2 of 2. Part 1 is here.)

I didn't know I had a ticket to see Obama's speech until the morning before the event when my boss called me up and said he had an extra ticket. Best. Boss. Ever! :bounce:

Got down there about 2pm and proceeded to stand in line for about an hour and a half. The first 45 minutes we didn't move and the line stretched out faaar behind me, but once we started moving it went pretty quickly.

I got in in plenty of time to see Will.i.am and John Legend, and Sheryl Crow. :D

Pelosi called the meeting to order:

The Bronx wants Obama to know they stand with him.

Two of my favorite Dems spoke, my congresswoman, Diana DeGette, and of course, Howard Dean. :loveya:

And my top two picks for VP spoke, too, Bill Richardson (first pick) and our chosen VP, Joe Biden.

The crowd went wild when President Gore walked out!

Then they really went wild when Obama came on stage! (Naturally.) It was very hard to get a good shot of Obama because by this time it was dark, and 60,000 people were jumping, dancing and wildly waving flags, making the stadium shake. These shots are more or less in chronological order--you can see the confetti flying in the last shot.

I'm still having a hard time believing I was really there to witness this historic event. What a truly wonderful candidate we have in Barack Obama!

1. WOW!!!
Thanks for the pics. I know how emotional I was watching it on TV, I can't imagine how I would have been if I was there.

5. When I shoot events like this,
I tend to zen out trying to get the perfect shot. I distinctly remember hearing and reacting to parts of speeches, but overall my memory of this is kind of surreal. But then, it's such a momentous occasion, perhaps the memory would feel surreal no matter what.

10. I'm glad you got will.i.am. For some reason, even though it was my favorite part of the night
I forgot to get a picture of him!

15. Your photo essay is amazing
excellent work - and I am so happy for you that you were there to experience it. I *made* my kids watch Obama's speech on Thursday - didn't offer them a choice (they like politics and Obama, anyway, but my 9 year old was sick, and so grumpy at first). Historical. We will all look back on this in the years to come -- and you, Hissyspit, will be able to say, "I was there!" and have the photos to prove it. *Chills* Thanks for sharing.

14. wow! You're a talented photography, in the flow!
and your seat was waaayy better than mine- I was in the north section, upper level. But the energy in the crowd was strong. I am motivated now to do whatever to get this man elected. If the GOP is going to flip 5 million votes, we need to have 10 million more that they can't touch. It was really nice meeting you. I say us Colorado contingent of DU'ers meet periodically. Most of my friends aren't super active politically and I enjoyed our night at Racines.

I hang out in DU's photo group, they've taught me a lot. I also really enjoyed meeting you, and would love to have another meet-up. My friends aren't really political either. If you'd ever like to go for coffee or a drink sometime, pm me. :hi:

You either had better seats than me or a much better camera! I also loved your other shots. Do you ever post in the Photo Group? I'd love to see what else you shoot.

And I was sitting right behind you at Progressive Central - tabling for United for Peace and Justice, though I wasn't there when Palast and Goodman spoke. :hi:

30. real good camera and a good vantage point
My buddy who is a professional photographer let me borrow his 400mm lens and I was able to score a media pass so I could go pretty much where I wanted to.

I was at Progresive Central for School of the Americas Watch.
