Animal lover? Palin's "Wolf Bounty" is sickening and outrageous.
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 07:32 PM by progressivebydesign
Can any true animal lover vote for that person? She supports and enables aerial hunting of wolves, she wants no protections for the disappearing polar bears, and in 2007 the Defenders of Wildlife issued the following statement on her wolfe bounty. (she instituted a policy that rewards people for killing, then cutting off the front LEFT leg of the wolves for a mere $150. That is what a wolve's life is worth to her..

http://www.defenders.org/newsroom/press_releases_folder/2007/03_27_2007_judge_asked_to_shut_down_wolf_bounty_program.php

<<Anchorage, AK -- Today Defenders of Wildlife, the Alaska Wildlife Alliance and the Alaska Chapter of the Sierra Club asked the Alaska Superior Court to shut down Governor Palin's $150-per-wolf bounty program citing the fact that Alaska's bounty laws were repealed in 1984 and the State has no current legal authority to implement the bounties.

"The Governor is overstepping her legal authority by offering cash payments for each wolf killed by aerial gunners," stated Tom Banks, Defenders of Wildlife's Alaska Associate. "That's a bounty by anyone's standards regardless of what they call it."

Hoping to boost the number of wolves killed this year by permitees, Palin announced the state would pay $150 for each kill. According to an Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) news release, the bounty was instituted to "motivate permittees to redouble their efforts and to help offset the high cost of aviation fuel, ADF&G will offer cash payments to those who return biological specimens to the department." The state's press release, issued last Wednesday, indicates that "Permittees will be paid $150 when they bring in the left forelegs of wolves taken from any of several designated control areas." >>

2. dear god. Aren't there other ways to decrease the population of wolves?
If indeed they are overpopulating the area and might starve a horrible death as a result (which I don't know anything about, just conjecture), couldn't there be ways to control their fertility? I have read of such ways (usually injected darts of some kind of contraceptives) with other animals. Why couldn't that be at least tried? This is so cruel it boggles the mind.

It seems like the Reputhuglicans really want to lose this election. Most people will be revolted by these ideas. It will looks so awful that people just get turned off immediately.

Bring it on! Nothing like the truth.

4. Meh. Here's a story about Pat Schroeder (former Dem Prez hopeful from Denver)
Pat Schroeder was the Rep in Congress from Denver, and was addressing a meeting of a mixture of owners of sheep operations and animal rights activists. The sheep guys had been shooting and poisoning coyotes to protect their flocks, and the animal rights people were flipping out. Schroeder suggested that the coyotes be trapped and castrated. One of the sheep guys leaped from his chair and yelled, "Goddammit, Pat! The coyotes are eating our sheep, not fucking 'em!"

Needless to say, Schroeder was worthless in resolving the issue.

5. Wonder what she would want to do to the Endangered Species Act
if God forbid McBush/Wicked Witch get into the WH?

I'm a life long animal lover and I am outraged she is even being considered for VP at all with her views on a lot of issues. The polar bear/wolves killing is what makes me despise her so much more.

14. I was at a wolf sanctuary today
Near Lititz, PA. We talked with one of the volunteers after our tour about it, and she told us that everyone was PISSED about that.

Good news, folks. In Lancaster County, PA - which is part of what is termed "Alabama In-Between" - I've seen one McSame sign and two Obama signs today!
