There are lots of combinations in the article.

1. True. While technically Obama could win the election without MI or PA....

...it's very unlikely that the map of election night will show Obama winning, but without one of those states.

It's more likely that Obama loses in spite of winning both those states than that he loses MI or PA and still wins the election.
